Dove season opened after Thanksgiving again here. Had a nice cold snap today, 55 degrees. Went out and walked up dove and quail. Got 5 dove and 1 Gambel's quail. Could have shot 5 quail or so if I could have gotten them to fly, but they just kept running. Finally got a covey to fly 30 ft from me... about 30 feet from the car when done!
Mod12 16ga worked well, Herters 1oz #6 for jump shooting. Wouldn't have minded 1-1/8oz, everything was 35-45 yds. |

That sounds fantastic to me. Hope to get the opportunity to go do that in the future. |

Do you use a dog? If not, try walking after the quail in very large circles. If you can cut them off more than once they will start flushing, usually as singles. The best part of the season is in Feb. so keep at it it will get better and better. |

byrdog,
I don't use a dog unfortunately. I'll give the circling maneuver a try.
On the season length, it's super: 1 Oct until mid Feb I think. But all the coveys like to be in folk's backyards with their drippers it seems! |
