I had Briley install choke tubes in my 20 gauge Browning Citori (made in 1980) a few years ago, and the tubes say "lead shot only." I did order some steel shot compatible tubes later for hunting snipe on a WMA that required non-toxic shot. My question is: what would happen if steel shot was fired in the "Lead shot only" tubes?

There is a chance the steel shot will "hammer" the choke tube into the threads. At this point they may be permanent. Nontoxic choke tubes are made of harder metal, are more difficult to machine and therefore more expensive.

when I queried them (Briley)about the 28ga project , they told me my extended tubes were good to go as long as IM or looser . Haven't had any problems with the Ruger and Hevi 12/ITX13 . As an aside , the Poly was given the OK also . (Ruger said same thing also about their chokes , IM or looser )

16 Ga Davis...That's good to know. I have a couple Berettas with Mobil chokes and use steel in Modified or less. One of the guns is vintage 1986. I also have a 20 gauge that I had Briley install tubes on. I got 5 tubes, but only the open tubes are what they call steel proof at .003 and .009. Glad someone contacted Briley about their product.
