Hi, I have an opportunity to purchase a belgian sweet sixteen in excellent condition, unfortunately it has had a scope mount attached with 6 screws. What would my options be to remove the mount and fill the holes, and what do you expect the value of such a gun to be?
thanks,
Scott

Personally, I wouldn't even think of buying it, why mess with removing the mount and filing the holes when you can get one elsewhere without all that hassle?
If the mount and holes didn't bother you, you wouldn't have asked the question, don't buy it.

About the only thing that could be done within reason would be after you remove the mount screws put some small set screws in where the mount screws were. I would use some blue lock tite on them.
The value on this gun would be low.

Just my two cents, regards Gordon

The holes can be filed with a micro welder. A good smith can fill the holes, and refinish the receiver. Not a cheap option, but I've seen it done and before and after -it was flawless.

I'd agree, unless the price is really low, I'd pass on the gun.

+1 I wouldn't mess with it . If it is a really good price and you can live with it having the holes and just putting in filler screws, then buy it . But even if you buy it for say $300.00 then decide to have the holes welded and reblue the receiver only , then the bluing in the barrel would not likely match . With all the cost involved for repair you would be better off finding a different gun.

For me the price would have to be really low before I'd buy it, and even then the holes would bother me. It would have been one thing to do that to a beat up standard A5, but why would someone do that to an otherwise nice Sweet?

If you don't care about how it looks or the collector value, it should make a good shooter. For me it would only have value for its parts. The barrel, wood and other components would be worth something.

The mount can be easily unscrewed and the holes filled with Weaver plug screws which will bottom out on the receiver surface so no function issues.
Every gunsmith I know has a cup full of these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-Pack-Blued-Plug-Screw-6-48-For-Reciever-Barrel-Scope-Sight-Base-Set/361845248825?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D38530%26meid%3D90f877f7c1414e6588b2e34e208c2d37%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D361846109218

They come in 6x48 and 8x32

As far as a hunting gun no issues
As for turkey and deer you could reinstall the scope mount if needed.

As far as value, way down which is good for you if you want a hunting gun.
See if you can get the Sweet for $300

Let us know how it comes out

Mike
