I use a sling on my goose gun as that type of hunting involves a lot of standing and you get plenty of notice with geese that its time to make the gun ready and be ready to mount it. The goose gun (Beretta 391 factory camo) doubles as my turkey gun and once again the sling comes in handy as I am usually carrying a seat and decoys.

HOWEVER....... I don't use one for Upland hunting. Personally can't see the need for them. I have a pointing dog but still prefer to hold the shotgun.

I started to use a sling on a gun when I started hunting gobblers in the Appalachians. To hunt some of those spots I needed my hands free to climb and descend, and find a sling great for hunting off bicycles, horses, and schlepping gear to blinds. Reno

Taking a tip from another site regarding the European-style leather slings from Jeff's Outfitters, my Darne R-10 and Brun-Latrige 16 gauge doubles now have appropriate slings. The guns were made with barrel and stock swivel-studs. Gil

I never could stand the bobbing and bouncing of a sling as I mounted the gun to take a shot so I now have a simple slip on type that only gets used during those times when I have a lot to carry in or out of a field. It's mostly a water fowling proposition for me but useful during dove time too.

I like the surplus M1 Carbine sling for my shotgun, hang the sling over the neck as I walk down a trail or rough brush. Don't have to crook it or lean it as I need to water a tree.

Drag a deer with both hand as needed.

Have used the Uncle Mike's for attaching to barrel and mag tube.
