That looks to be a super day. I've never hunted with Beagles but always thought Bunnies & Beagles would be fun. Nice shotguns guys.

Sure looks like you had a good time with the new guns. Can't wait to get after some rabbits 2 more days and deer season is over.

Bunnies, beagles, and snow - brings back fond memories of long past hunts and those who went on them!

Thanks so much for sharing,

Chuck

Looks like a great day in the field thanks for sharing. There is no sound better than a pair of beagles making music on the trail of a rabbit.

Also 10-15 on a deer in the pines . Knda of a roar but if you listen closely you can pick each individual dog out . Not that a pair of beagles doesn't sound good its just different .

Great hunt Blackbelt! Do you always hunt with a brace or do you run a larger pack at times? What bloodline is your dogs? Hunting a piece of land Tuesday we haven't hunted before. Will post pics of dogs ,rabbits, and guns.
What's the verdict on the new sweet16? Good or bad or whatever. Thanks, Ken

Beagleman, I only have the pair so that is what I run. My dogs are both out of the Green Bay bloodline and each has at least three shots of Green Bay Shooter in them. The young dog has some Indian Hills in her background too.

I love my new sweet sixteen! Light to carry, fast to shoulder, points well and has very low recoil for a gun under 6lbs with 1 1/8oz field loads.

Been working on starting my 8mo old pup. She is hunting really well and sure loves the bunnies. Fun to watch a young dog turn on and start doing what God mean for them to do!

Blackbelt, I have heard of Indian hills bloodlines,I.e. Indian Hills Major. My dogs are all Cocoa Bear breeding through F.C. Covington's Cocoa Star. He is linebred throughout my 18 dogs. These dogs are bred for the briars and honeysuckle of the pine thickets of Ga.and S.C.
Handled the new swt 16 at my LGS. 28",$1450 , can't make up my mind. It does not have the classy look of the '50s swt 16. Fit in feel is good. If it had a round knob I would have it already. Maybe give Uncle Dan Fan time to work out the logistics of a straight stock.
If you should ever venture south, you, Dave and the dogs are invited to a ga. pine thickets rabbit hunt!
Ken

Ken,

A lot of the dogs we get up here have roots or at least links to Canadian hounds like the Branko line so many of the more regional bloodlines are some sort of mix of Branko and other lines. I've never run anything other than cottontails but I know many of these dogs are a little bigger, faster and used to run hare. My two females are both a solid 15" but my old male I had to put down this passed spring was 17.5" in his youth. That dog was Branko and Northway bread and boy could he run a rabbit hard if the scenting allowed for it!

Let me know if you ever travel up the Mississippi sometime! We'd have to get together!
