I have used a 12 ga on two turkeys and a bow for about 25 turkeys.
A 16 ga with 1 1/8 of #5 or #6 would work just fine.
There is lots of "marketing" these days that says you need 3.5" 12ga with super nickel plated shot at 1500 fps out of a ported super full choke to kill a turkey. That's BS. Use a good 16ga load out of a full or mod choke and the turkey will die very quickly.

I've probably shot around 1/2 dozen turkeys with my marked mod choke, 16 ga 11-48 with some handloads of #5, 1 and 1 1/8 oz and lately a few with the Herter's 16 ga, 1 1/8 oz load of #5's.
Can't think of a time where a follow up shot was needed and all were shot at 35 yds and in.

3/4 Oz. #9's.

Cyl. Bore through full choke

Plenty of birds with that combination in 63.5, 65, 67, and 70 mm loadings.

Nick, you forgot to state the fps of those nines. I'm guessing they are 1,350+. I have used a 16 SxS for turkey with 7.5's in the right, cylinder bore and fives in the left, full bore to good effect. Reno

If I had a tag this fall in North Dakota I would have used the 16. I had two run then flush after hiding under a tumbleweed in my buddy's fence line! I always wanted to zap one on the wing and the 16 loaded fives certainly would have done the job for those point blank birds.
