Check out the latest issue of The Double Gun Journal, for Steve Cambria's article on a pair of screaming 16-gauge 2nd generation Ansley H. Fox B-Grades. The 16-gauges (below) along with a pair of 12-gauges above at the NE Side-by-Side at Hausemann's Hidden Hollow last June --

The B Grade, in my opinion, was the the most handsome model Fox ever produced. Exectly the right balance of engraving and checkering/wood grade.
Simply perfect. |

Beautiful no doubt, but what would one of these jewels cost me? |

B grades are fairly scarce on the market but don't have the demand of the "higher grades"(yet) so seem much more reasonably priced. My only Fox is a B grade 12 gauge straight grip in excellent condition that I picked up for 2 grand a year or so ago. |

Cowdoc,
What's your address and when are you leaving on vacation next....
If you happen back home early and find your B Grade Fox misplaced, don't call me, I haven't seen it. |

Is there a chart somewhere showing Fox's grading system? Where in the food chain would an AE fall? Thanks |

The AE (A grade ejector) is the lowest of the graded guns. You can find a grade listing at www.foxcollectors.com. |

AE is on the low end of the high grades. Ejectors command a small premium over extractors but originality and condition are a major consideration.
It went:
Sterlingworth
A, AE
B, BE
C,CE
XE
DE
FE
Mixed in you have HE's which are very rare heavy duck guns that are typically plain but very $$$. They were also special made in the higher grades on custom order. 12's are more common ($4,K to $8K, 20's are light finding the holy grail $15K to $20K.
Also, SP's and SPE's (Skeet & Upland game guns) which are a late model made in small numbers and collectible.
There are lots of other little exceptions. Your best bet is to look at the Fox Collectors web site.

Researcher , those are the type guns I'm NOT allowed to handle ... I only handled Mikey C's fox when he was right there to catch me if I stumbled !! |

Sub gauges are worth more than 12 gauges and 30'' tubes are also commanding more money. 30'' tubes in sub gauge Graded guns are almost non existent . Those that have them , keep em . |
