Took my 'new to me' Merkel 201E out for a walk today with Dixie.

Turns out all the good things I've heard about the gun are correct. I like it. I'm much more of a side-by-side kind of a guy, but this one is a keeper.

Built in 1960, 16ga, 28" barrels, two triggers and weighs in at 6# 3oz. (Choked full and "holy cow!!) I used some spreader loads and they worked well.`

Still getting used to the ejectors and may even disable them sometime down the road.

Good girl Dixie. That O/U sounds like a nice handling gun. Like the sling. I have that type on all my hammer guns.

Perfect day, Rudy!

The Merkel 200 series guns are wonderful. I have a 12 gauge (gasp) 200E that is currently my "light OU." Plan on keeping it, too.

Dixie is our 11 year old American Water Spaniel.
She has taught us plenty about all kinds of bird hunting. Roosters, grouse, ducks, geese and doves. She hunts them all, even a bunny or bushy tail once in awhile. I have to believe the pheasants are her favorite, mine as well.
