OK, Ruff Hunter started this in another thread, and I suggested to him to post this topic, but I can't wait. I've got to see how everyone feels about it. Is an A. H. Fox, Graded or Sterlingworth, the best American Made double, aesthetically or value-wise? Thanks for your responses.

Tony, There you go again, "poking the bear" Laughing
Elsies on both counts.
Aesthetics-the side locks give so much more surface area to display their case coloring of which I'm so fond. Value- You'll probably have to pay 25-50% more for a Fox, similar guns in similar condition.
Besides, I just like the sound an Elsie makes when closed Wink

Best is a terrible word but an AH Fox can be a nice-appearing scattergun....or not.

No dog in the fight, but a survey consisting of small sample size leads to increase in margin of error.....
Very Happy

Since I have never held one of the guns being surveyed I won't be taking part in the poll. My childhood would be severely lacking--- if it weren't for Parkers, Brownings and Winchesters.

In Roy Dunlap's book, "Gunsmithing", he ranked all the popular American doubles based on his repair records over many years of gunsmithing. The A H Fox was his pick as the most reliable American double. No weaknesses noted.

My goodness, what a rigged poll, uh, I think the A.H Fox is the best, duh!

Mr. Roberts, when did you quit beating your wife?

I was thinking about how I wanted to present this for debate, but I like way that MaximumSmoke give you know other choice but to tow the party line!

Now, with respect to the question specific to this thread, I thought hard about it, and picked the AH fox for value. I would have done both value and aesthetics, but my soft spot for the sexy lines of my gal Elsie got in my way.

Of course, if someone REALLY wants to stir the pot here, poll this: Browning Citori vs. Fox. Be prepared to duck and dodge airborne excrement in copious quantities. Laughing
