I'm not familiar with Herter's hulls, but for use in 16 gauge loads 1 ounce or lighter and at lower velocities, Green Dot is the standard powder. |

It's more a matter of best powder for the amount of shot want to load. Green Dot is tops for 7/8 oz. loads and okay with 1 oz. loads. 800-X is tough to beat for 1 oz and does pretty well with 1 1/8 oz loads with the benefit that it won't leak around any wad when used in the Herter's hull. Longshot is super for 1 1/8 oz. loads but leaks like water around many wads in the Herter's hull. |

I've been using this load for quite sometime, just loaded about a 1000 for sporting clays and skeet. Misses = Operator Error not Ammo
Herters / Ched. Hull
18 gr GD
1 oz #7 1/2 or #8
SG 16 Wad from Ballistic Products
Ched or Win 209 Primer
Fills the hull nicely and crimps well
Using a Mec Grabber Press
Easy on the shoulder. |

I've been loading the herters with 20.9 universal and 7/8 once shot with DR -16 wad andFiocchi primer chronograph at 1140
21.9 universal with 1once of shot SG -16 wad ,Fiocchi primer chronograph at 1291fps
Shot allot of these loads and never had any issues
Have you chronograph those green dot loads ? |

I just loaded up a couple boxes of the load I use for clays and doves
Herters hull
Unique powder Mec bushing 30
Win 209
1/8" BP over powder card
Rem SP 16 wad
one ounce of #8
They crimp perfectly and shoot and perform real well |

The question should be which wads for the Herters - Cheddite hull . Just don't use the Remington , Claybuster or old Win AA wads and you should be good .
Some Powders : 3/4 - 7/8oz Greendot, 700x , International , American select.
1oz Unique , Universal 800x .
1 1/8oz 800x , Longshot , Bluedot .
There are others , those are the ones I use .
As mentioned before 800x works well in straight walled hulls with the Rem and Win wads .
Greendot is also great for 1oz if you don't want super fast. |
