Also if you go to engravingforum.com and click on "all albums" and then search for luthier engraving you will see a few photos of guitars I have built and engraved and a baritone ukulele with 18 animals commemorating my 12 years on Kodiak Island. Not shotguns but my motto is guns, guitars and old cars! |

I voted, but I'm a little hung-up on the wording of the poll. My favorite American doubles are the Ithacas, mainly because they are more in my price range and I own about 10 of them. They're very good, but probably not the best.
If the question was which is best, I'd lean toward Fox or Parker. Not from personal experience, just what I've heard and read.
Actually, all the guns listed were good for their purpose and price point. |

I have two of the mentioned guns, well, only one since Parker wasn't listed.
A 12 ga Parker VH, on a 1 1/2 frame w/ double triggers, and a Lefever "F" Grade 16 ga, w/double triggers.
Both are ejector only, which is my preference.
If I had to pick one it would be the Lefever, the genius put into the making of them is hard to believe, basically a gun that you can adjust for wear.
I had a Fox Sterlingworth, that quit working the first time I shot it, returned it and got my money back. So they all aren't the bee's knees.

You zero frame Parker fans, a question if I may. I have one 16ga of course, love it second best. Just how scarce are these.I was told only about 250 made in 16ga. But have no real idea of what's correct. Joe |

I feel like I should be brought up on treason. I currently have Belgian, French, German, Italian, and Japanese built shotguns in my safe. Not a single American. That hasn't always been the case, but it's just how things have shook out. I'd have a tough time deciding between a 16 ga. LC Smith-FW, Fox, and Parker. They all seem pretty wonderful to me. Add the Win. M21 and Lefever to that short list. |

I guess my favorite double has got to be Ithaca. How else can I justify having 6 of them. My favorite is a 1 1/2 Flues with 26" barrels that I use for grouse hunting in Maine.

Why have a favorite? I'm still exploring.
Owning a Utica Sterlingworth that weighs in at 6 pounds, one ounce I understand its attraction, and utility, as an upland gun.
There are 3-1/2 L.C. Smiths in my safe (The Ideal 16 is a matched 2-barrel set). Add to that a Field Grade 16 and an Ideal Grade 12. All are featherweights. And, Elsies have sidelocks!
I have Ruger Red Labels in 20 and 28 gauges. The 20 is really too heavy for a perfect upland gun, but nice on clays. The 28 is a death ray on ruffed grouse and woodcock. Nearly perfect for my current needs. I leave the skeet/skeet chokes in all the time. In fact, it leaves me little excuse for looking for a better tool for what I need.
But still, the American 16s...so attractive. And so true that "they don't make them like they used to."
Don't own a superposed. Yet. |

Having a few of most brands( also in other gauges), plus Parker and CSMC RBL16, I'm especially fond of the Fox guns in 16. The only foreign gun that ever caught my interest was a straight grip, top safety Greener that was out of my financial range. |

Fox's are definitely my #1 choice but I do like LC Smith's as well.
The first is a 4E in 20 gauge (sorry 16 gauge brothers) but the second is a custom 16 FW with an upgrade to crown grade features.
