Just giving you a little rubbing Max Smoke. I would not consider myself anywhere near experienced with the finer double guns to be able to give an intelligent vote.

Hi Tony,

I am on a slow dial-up system (remote location) and photobucket type sites don't work for me.

However, if you go to engraverscafé.com near the top of the page you will see a number of "buttons" and in the middle is one titled interviews. Click on that and page down about half way and you will find one about me. There are a few photos at the end of the interview, including a Winchester, one of only two Presentation Grade Model 21 Winchesters made, that I did for the USRAC Custom shop just before they closed the shop. It is also the only 21 you will see with one set of barrels, with one barrel 20 ga. and one barrel 28 ga.

There are a number of engravers listed there.

Also on the fega.com site click on master engravers and my name and there is a gallery of a few photos there.

You zero frame Parker fans, a question if I may. I have one 16ga of course, love it second best. Just how scarce are these.I was told only about 250 made in 16ga. But have no real idea of what's correct. Joe

They are not scarce at all. There were way more than 250 made in 16ga., but nobody knows exactly how many more because frame size records were never kept.

Thanks dap. That was the 1995 SCI auction rifle, no. 4 in their "World's Most Dangerous Game" series. Definitely not a 16 ga.

The Engraver's Cafe wants me to register and log in before I can see any pictures, but fega.com shows me a picture of Sam's Model 21. Wonderful work, but a gun with one 20-gauge and one 28-gauge barrel sounds dangerous to me!!

You are right Researcher which is why they only ever did one and it was for one of their best customers for whom they built a lot of M21s. If I remember right it took the customer some effort to talk them into that, what with the liability problems.

I might add that the gauges were stamped per usual with the Winchester data/ga. on each barrel and also the ga. was inlayed in gold on top of the breech end of the barrels and a replication of the bottom of a shotshell inlayed in gold on the lever with the gauges engraved into the gold.

My vote went to the Win M21, but I probably shoot my RBLs the most.

Some of the names vary considerably in design and function. Example Ithaca NID is a lot more gun than earlier models.

You could also break the list into two parts. Top 5 quality doubles and the less expensive models. Not fair to compare a Parker Fox Ithaca with a Stevens. In its class I like Stevens a lot.

Far as voting, with a 16 G Parker Hammer gun, 16 G Parker Trojan, and a 16 G FN Hammer gun. No boxes for me to check.

Gentlemen,
My favorite US made Double Gun is made by L.C. Smith, I have several of them that have been passed down thru my family for generations.

skeettx,
Simply fantastic old Baker double gun, especially with the Spangler Engraving!
