I have to say, long or short, in the end I keep coming back to considering one myself.
Somewhere on here, somebody put uo a link to an engraved model...now that is a sharp gun! |

The long overall length of the A5's is something I pointed out in an earlier thread. I had first noticed the issue on the new A5 12ga a few years ago. I'll quote the earlier thread here for reference.

Keep in mind that the OAL of the new A5's is longer than you might expect. I handled both of the Sweet 16's and decided on the 26".
A few years ago I posted a comparison of the OAL differences between the 12ga A5's and the 12ga Maxus shotguns. I had bought a 28" A5 in 12ga and found it to be a lot longer than the 28" Maxus I had. I ended up getting a 26" instead.
Here is a link to the post with pictures:

Updating that info to include the new Sweet 16 and the Citori 16ga based on my measurements, here is a comparison:
26" Citori 16ga. - 43" OAL - 26" Sight plane
26" Maxus 12ga. – 47” OAL - 31-1/2" Sight plane
26” new A5 16ga. - 47-3/8” OAL – 34” Sight plane
26" new A5 12ga. – 47-5/8” OAL - 34-1/8" Sight plane
28" Citori 16ga. - 45" OAL - 28" Sight plane
28" Maxus 12ga. – 49” OAL - 33-1/2" Sight plane
28” new A5 16ga. - 49-3/8” OAL – 36” Sight plane
28" new A5 12ga. – 49-5/8” OAL - 36-1/8" Sight plane
The A5's are noticeably longer than the Maxus and way longer than the Citori's. The difference in the sight plane is even more noticeable.
Hope this helps.

In the past I also had two of the original Sweet 16's. They never fit me well so I finally sold them. The problem I had with them was the lower height of the receiver. The Light Twelve I had fit me perfectly, but with the original Sweet 16, the sighting plane was just too low to the stock for me.
Good luck,

Cass, Thanks for the info. I'm sure I read your post but it didn't compute to my small mind. I had the stock on my 2017 modified extensively to fit my specs. It fits me perfectly now. Being a small person the OAL of the 26 inch version is also correct for me. The sighting plane is 33.5 on mine which is equal to that of my Guerini clays gun with 30 inch barrels. |
