I had a Sportsman 48 16ga, and I had it completely disassembled for cleaning. To my memory there was no bearing plate, and there was no indication that there had been. I remember this because I remember that the mating surface of the stock showed no sign of dirt or oil accumulation and I was amazed.

the 11-48's and 48sp's were inletted right to the wood/receiver . If you intend to use an 1100/870 stock , you need the Rem plate plus a fine card to match it to the receiver . If you don't , that hammering of the action will take the edge wood out unless you are using REALLY lite loads !! It's most important that the butt fits to the receiver .
