I was at reloading supply place and they had Claybuster 1oz and 7/8 oz wads.
Never have seen these 16 ga wads before.
Has anyone used these wads before and what hull and powder do you use?
I've been loading cheddite hills with universal powder SG 1 oz wads and DR 7/8 wads.
Thanks |

A clone of the WAA16. The 7/8 oz wad is the same except for a little plastic nipple in the bottom og shot column. Takes the place of a cheerio! |

I use them both, the 1 oz with 2 3/4 inch rem hulls and universal and the 7/8 oz with 2 1/2 inch rem hulls with universal. |

The Claybusters 16 gauge AA clones do have a slightly larger overpowder seal than the original AA's. However, it isn't a tight fit in a Cheddite straight-walled hull or the like from Fiocchi, Federal, etc. You can use those 16 gauge Claybuster wads in those hulls, but it would be best to use large grain powders, such as Unique and Green Dot, or 800-X. The next issue will be wad column height -- you might have to add fillers as the straight-walled hulls have more capacity. The 16 gauge Claybusters wads still work well -- just like original AA wads -- in Remington hulls, and in the old compression formed Winchester/Western hulls. |

I use the Claybuster wads in Herters hulls with Unique powder. In my load, I have to use a filler wad to get the correct stack height. |

Would you share your 7/8oz 2 1/2" Rem recipe please? |

In many cases (but not all), you can dispense w/ filler wads if you use the Claybuster 7/8 oz. wad for 1 ounce loads and the 1 oz wad for 1-1/8 ounce loads in Cheddite type hulls. Best to go w/ the bulkier mid-range powders like Unique, Herco, 880X, etc., avoid powder charges on the lighter side, and dispense with using any of the ball powders to avoid powder migration. Seating the wad firmly on the powder charge helps to splay the wad base skirt. A well formed, very firm crimp will hold the wad in place, and will help the powder charge to burn cleanly and consistently. |
