Shooting Sportsman says they have closed up. Another Spanish gun maker folds, too bad.

I would venture that the gun lay in the gun case for some years unattended and that's where the rust originated. I saw a 16ga Winchester Model 21 Tournament Skeet that had lain in a soft case for many years on the floor in a closet. It had rust on one barrel in the same area and on one side of the receiver. Made me leery of leaving guns in cases for very long.

Spanish guns have been a wonderful value. Their guns are nearly as attractive as a London Best at a tenth, or less, of the price, and they carry and shoot as well or better than their competitors. But it is hard to think that any industry can survive on a product design that has been frozen in time for over 100 years, especially now that a high performance mass produced sub-6 lb. 16 ga autoloader is entering the market.

Gentlemen,
I totally agree, Uggie, Zabala and Arrieta all were making decent guns for the money they charged. Something going on in that country, the loss of these 3 companies all about the same time is kind of suspicious.

The Grade iV and V Uggie Sidelock was one of the best purchases no the market, for modern SXS double guns. Rick Grimes was nice enough a while back to let me see his 16 and I was very impressed with it. Wanted to purchase one myself.

I own the 28 Gauge Zabala, made for Marlin L.C. Smith. Real nice gun for the money, even without the Brown Rotary bolt.

Arrieta's closing is definitely not a good thing, in fact the loss of all these good Spanish gun makers will effect the US Gun Markert in a big way. Unfortunately it will not be good.

There are different reasons given in each case, but I suspect there's more to it. Surely if the economy were better, someone would have stepped in.

I can't confirm this absolutely, but have heard from two separate and credible sources that AyA is also having problems. If and when I hear anything definite, I'll post it.
