BarkeyVA,the gun appears nice, but I know nothing about the mod.90. How good are these guns? All double triggers, any with 30 " barrels?? Might shoot at clays. |

here is mine, I shoot trap with it. It has 28 in barrels with mod and full choke, the 26 in had mod and IC choke. mine was made in 1939 and has a solid rib between barrels. Only problem to watch for is a loose lock up that can be checked by removing the fore arm and wiggling it, if it wiggles it is loose. they came with double and single triggers.

I think the Model 90's are very solid guns (I own 16 Model 90's).
In 2007, Weagle posted on the Shotgun World web site that he had shot over 10,000 rounds through his 12 ga model 90 with 30" barrels with no issues at all. He posted sometime later that he was up to nearly 20,000 rounds through the gun and it was still going strong.
Marlin made the 12 ga model 90 with 26, 28 and 30" barrels. 16 and 20 ga Model 90's were made with 26 or 28" barrels. |

I forgot to mention that Sears sold the Marlin Model 90 under the Ranger trade name prior to WWII and under the JC Higgins trade name after WWII. |

Glad I called the seller this morning before I bid as it had a small crack on either side of the stock at the receiver. Still went for$586 |

I took a closer look at the photos and the cracks are very small ones just above the trigger guard on either side of the stock. I think they are insignificant, and I might have bid on it if I didn't already have two Model 90DT's with 26" barrels.
There are no records on the number of model 90's made with 26" barrels (typically choked IC/Mod) prior to 1952. However, according to Brophy in his book on Marlin Firearms published in 1989 by Stackpole Books, there were only 932 Model 90's made with 26" barrels from 1952-1957 when Marlin stopped production of the double trigger Model 90. Therefore, one can assume that there were relatively fewer Model 90DT's made with 26" barrels.
Consequently, I am not that surprised at the $585 final price because they don't come up for sale that often. I paid $550 for a really nice Model 90DT with 26" barrels 10 years ago. |

I would have grabbed it with the stock issue at around $450 or so, since like, Barkey I already have 2 that I have put enough money in.
I got a 26" from 53 that needed the action tightened with ic/mod
&
I got a 26" from 50 that needed a new stock with mod/full, it also has a rib on it.
In the last year or 2 I got both guns for less than $425, but then went and put around $400 in them so I'd have to get closer to $650 each just to break even on them. Then again, I didn't buy them to sell or make a profit on. I made the choice I could not buy new in the same range of price for the cost of getting these guns back to great shape.
The 53 has become my go to rabbit & quail gun! |

I agree with Charlie, although I think I would have stopped at $425 which, with shipping and transfer, would have kept it under $500.
My two Model 90's were made in 1947 (closed 26" barrels) and 1949 (open 26" barrels). Both are in great condition. A previous owner of the 1947 gun opened the bottom barrel to .002" constriction (between cylinder and skeet). The top barrel measures IMod. The 1949 gun is IC/Mod. |

A 16 ga Sears Ranger with 28 " barrels just sold on Gunbroker for $630. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/662499314. looks like we need to readjust our thinking on what a Model 90 in good condition is worth. |
