Did some research

Our Terms of Use does not allow 3rd party hosting for free accounts. We ask that you upgrade to our Plus 500 subscription plan to continue using Photobucket to power your blog, business, or hobby.

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website.

For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

To upgrade your account or view our competitive subscription plans,

AND FOLKS that is $400 per YEAR to host these pictures on Photobucket, WHEW

Mike

I have used PB for years and even pay a few bucks for their ad free service. Can we start a list of good alternatives?

They have sealed their fate with this change. Make sure you still have your pictures on your hard drive because the photobucket website won't be around long.

I've been using Hunt101, it's a little awkward, but it works.....

I also use Hunt101 and it is awkward, but it also doesn’t cost $400 p/year. Wow, hard to believe in this techie age someone wants that kind of money for a service you can easily find for free.

Good Hunting,
Mike

Guess I won't be posting any more pictures- at least until I figure out how to do it with another site. It only took me a year or so to figure out how to do it with Photobucket. Oh,well, I guess I'm not of the tech generation.

Imgur is really simple to use.

Once you upload pics to Imgur, you click on the pic to go into the Edit mode. On the right hand side you see a list of of options. Click on the Copy BBCode button. Come back here, right click and paste the code into the reply box. You don't have to do anything else.

It appears that many if not all of the photos that I have posted on this sight and others has been removed by PB and in it's place a notice to update my account.
I'm definitely going to look for another means to post pics and will never go back to PB. Mad

Gentlemen,

IMO these photo bucket business people are real snakes, they get you to let them host your pictures for free, then they change their business model and charge big money to let you use your own pictures, that are stored on their sight.

IMO I believe their long range business plan was originally set up to due this from the very beginning. I will never pay them to use my own pictures, infact I want them eliminated/deleted from their storage system.

We now need the ability to post directly from our individual computers to the 16 forum, eliminating photo bucket completely.

Pine Creek/Dave

Now jpg is screwing around with their format and it's not working the same either.

I've been trying to tell people for awhile now that the Photobucket site has basically been a virus (on and off) over the last few years. In fact connecting to there from work often the security suite we use blocks the site based on active detection such as pop ups, embedded malware, etc.

Flickr is free for up to 1000 Gb. and I highly recommend it.

Back in the beginning of the year I posted a how to on Upland Journal on how to link from Flickr

http://uplandjournal.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/58526-done-with-photobucket-smugmug-or-flickr/&do=findComment&comment=1050444

For free it is one of the best sites out there for hosting IMO. Even among the pay sites the only other one that can give it a run for the money would be smugmug.

I signed up with jpgbox, here's how it turned out for posting:

Worked great! Much easier to use than PB, looks like a winner to me!

Best,

Greg

gjw,
Thanks for the info, how are you getting the picture to post direct to the 16 forum, all I get is the jpgbox code that must be clicked on to activate the image.

Pine Creek/Dave

Finally figured out how to post the image direct, thanks again for the hosting sight!

Boy, I sure like this better than PB, faster and easier! Took the above pic on the 141st Anniversary of the battle. My son and I are Indian War buffs.

Best,

Greg
