I purchased one of these a few months back.
I'll just hit the important details, to save time...
1) Shipping is extended duration, as you would expect. Mine was 5-6 wks.
2) I was unable to produce a roll crimp on either federal or winchester hulls. the hull would buckle on the side prior to a crimp starting. These were once fired hulls, trimmed to 65mm.
(I have the precision roll crimper on my drill press and I can produce nice crimps, btw..)
3) I have not tried to crimp a paper BPI sourced hull yet. I have not settled on a recipe, or had time as of late to do so. I was going to wait until I had tried one of the paper hulls and took some actual pictures prior to a review on this site.
4) At this time I can not recommend this product. YMMV. |

I'd never seen these before, thanks for the feedback. I have an old original that will crimp old Federal paper shells, but screws up on any plastic. I too have a Precision drill press mounted crimp head that is very dependant on the properties of the shell. Econo-grade cheapo's just crumple. RXP/Nitro 27 won't roll, maybe because they are work/heat hardened by the time I got to try them. R-P Gun Club roll quite well, thank you, and so do some lower end Federals. I haven't tried many AAs, old or new, to provide a report. For my old Win. 97 I can get an extra shell in the mag tube (for Wild Bunch matches) if I trim split-neck old AA's to 2 3/8" and roll crimp. |

Interesting but I have a MEC Grabber in 12, and a Junior in 16. enough toys and too little $$ after buying shot & powder. Crimp heads in both gauges as well. |

Tried this roll crimper again yesterday. Problem with mine is the shell base turns against the driver end, so the crimper end can't function. Perhaps glueing a piece of rubber or leather inside the cup that holds the shell base might remedy this. I tried lightly lining the crimp end, but no better. |

Hello 16'er
Sorry for the delayed answer.
I was over in New Mexico at Whittington Center shooting sporting clays, double rifles and crazy with the Rocky Mountain Vintagers
What fun, what fun.
I have had the Lyman tool in the past, but moved on from there.

With the recent move, I’ve gone through about everything I own... I found this roll crimper in a box of reloading sundries. Looks like it very well be a 12ga model, hence my previous frustration with trying to produce 16ga crimps. If I ever get around to loading 12ga, I’ll give it a try again. I’m quite certain I ordered the 16ga model, guess something was lost in translation? |

I have one in 16 gauge. They work on paper hulls and new primed plastic hulls. I have not tried them on used plastic hulls. A bit of rubber cement in the base holder helps to keep the hull from turning during the operation. They work better the more they are used. |

the sellers description is mystifying. To roll crimp used plastic hulls the old crimp needs to be cut off. |

I bought a cheap Russian crimp tool like it and it will crimp paper fairly well if mounted vertically (saw horse). Plastic hulls with a star crimp just follow their memory of the previous crimp. New plastic will crimp but it takes a lot of turns to warm it enough to roll (drill mounted rollers are better). As far as the spinning issue, I just hold the shell while cranking. $20 so I can work off-grid, not bad for a whim. |

Will this work on fired Cheddite/Herters hulls? |
