Am I missing something here? Is Photobucket charging $400 to this forum? Or is the story that it is charging the customer? I just posted using PB here using their free service and everything worked fine. This site is the only reason I ever kept the account since the other places where I post will take my images directly from my computer.
As far as PB "keeping" my photos is concerned, so what. The high resolution images I send to my magazine editors don't go on there anyway, those are just the low res copies for internet use.
If my most recent photo post is costing the forum money delete it. |

Went back and deleted to be safe. Too bad, inspiring material. I will see what else I can do. |

The $400 a year is what photobucket will charge an individual to allow unlimited views of their pictures on 3rd party sites such as this. Without paying the $400, you get a limited number of views of a photo from 3rd party sites before it is replaced with the "photbobucket sucs" image. You can continue to upload pictures without paying and others can view them by connecting to the photobucket site. |

Several other, much busier gun sites I visit have upgraded to allowing members to post pics directly onto the site without an image hosting site. These places have over a thousand people on them at one time, so I don't expect 16ga or the other specialty shotgun sites to do this. Now to figure out how to get my pics off of PB.
Regards,
Jeff |

I got the same PB notice and lockup on the photos I've shared over the years on various forums. I have a flickr account and host a few photos there, but I find it a bit confusing trying to share. I recently opened an imgur account and find it very user friendly to host and share on other forums.

Pee bucket (photobucket) is in it's death throes. Let'em gasp & die. Crappy business model they switched to. For several years their site has been loaded up with advertising junk. Now that they are trying to hostage our own images.............................
Adios. |

Who is to say that the remaining "free" sites won't eventually do the same as PB? Gil |

I've been with ImageShack for quite a few years now. A about three years ago they went from free to $39 a year. I was miffed at them for a while and almost didn't pay, but as much as I like to share photos I deemed it affordable. My wife and I can hardly go out for dinner for less. They've held the line for the last couple years, and I can't blame them for making a reasonable buck on an invaluable service. Just the other night on a local fishing site I was in a discussion about the old Lazy Ike lures, and I sure enjoyed digging out my five old Lazy Ikes to share online with that bunch.
What PhotoBooth did was WAY over the top. Sounds like they're in a death spiral. |
