Took a morning trip to the local (Ft Mill , SC) Cabela's this AM

They has 10 boxes each of Herter's 5s , 6s & 7 1/2s at $8.99 a box. Fiocchici Golden Pheasant #5s at $15.99 a box.

No Remington, Winchester or Federal.

They had only one 16 gauge cleaning brush on the Cleaning Rack.

Hard to buy local when they don't stock.

Local Dicks had ZERO 16 ga.

Regard all

I notice since getting my 16 ga's I've become a buyer of opportunity rather than going to sporting goods stores and actually expecting to buy what I want. It has also resulted in my becoming somewhat of a hoarder with 16 ga shells stacked up in my shop and drawers full of cleaning supplies. That said, it still works for me.

The 2 Walmarts I frequent have quit carrying RGL and Winchester. However they always have Federal, both 1 oz and 1 1/8. I buy a box once in a while but Lord knows I don't need em with my reloading addiction. Just ask the wife. Did you know you can only kill Zombies with Purple shotshells loaded with 7 1/2 shot!

I heard that that Winchester square shot was supposed to work on zombies, but maybe it's the silver coating.

I shoot regularly at two gun clubs. As far as I know, I am the only guy that shoots 16 gauge guns.

My walmart usually has the Winchester #8's in stock they only seem to have a few boxes at any time. I prefer the federals which they rarely have. They haven't had the Remington game loads in years.

My LGS will order me Federal #8's at $93 a case.

The herters shells from cabelas are the best deal going as far as I know, besides the piles of already paid for components and mec sizemaster in my basement.

Thanks to this wonderful forum, that's why I started reloading. Wish I had done so years ago.
Didn't take long at all to come up with a better recipe than anything I have shot commercially.
I don't shoot a lot and my needs aren't all that great so with 2 or 3 recipes I have enough components to probably last me to the end of my shooting days...

At one time I thought that Cabela's was a great place, that opinion has changed over the last ten years. Cabela's, at least in the store here in CT has become a place that doesn't offer anything that I cant get at any other box store.

Many things are made in China or some other third world arm pit. For the most part I am not interested.

I would much rather do business, with Gamaliel's, Powder Valley, Natchez, Precision Reloading, Graf's etc.

I agree Mark. Especially with the last sentence. Wink
