"If Remington hulls were actually made of good plastic". No doubt there. A true STS Remington: dreamland indeed.

Wyochukar,

I would settle for the current Remington 2 piece hull made of the same plastic that Gun Clubs are made from. Cool

Estate (Federal)
RGL
Fiocchi

I have a bunch of the Estates and admit its mostly the purple color that puts them at the top of the list.

Well there are really only two choices.
Remington or straight wall type. (ched, Fed, Herters, fio) all are straight wall type.
If you add in all brass there are then 3 types of hulls. All of the suck. But, I reload 16 ga anyway.

3crosses,

Why do you think the hulls we reload suck?

I think the reloads are great, I think the hulls we reload suck. We can only get about 4 reloads out of a hull. All are thin plastic and the crimps are the first to go.
Every gauge has a decent hull to reload except for the 16. 12, 20, 28 and .410 all have great hull to load. I love the 16 gauge, we deserve a great hull.

I get 6 to 8 reloads out of the RIO'S . The hull seems thicker. Might be just me. Dont like the larger prime pocke though so i reset the pocket with one of those reconditioners . Only need to do it one time. I have a few RIO'S that I lost count how many times I've reloaded them. But I inspect them and toss them when the hull starts to get soft and burning thru the sidewalls . The crimps just don't seem to split.

Rios are a very good hull. Thicker plastic and crimp holds up good. Some I reloaded I swear 8- 10btimes. I just don't take time to reset the primer pockets.

I get 3 - 4 out of Federals and 5 - 6 from Cheddite/Winchester.

I have no complaints. Both Federal and Cheddite have good capacity.

I do not put hunting loads in fired hulls. I use fired hulls for practice. the RIO hull lasts the longest but only by i or 2 loadings. When BPI has a sale on the Rios I buy 10 bags so the shipping is not much per hull. After subtracting the value of the primer the hull cost only about .08 so after the first 4 uses the hull is worth less than the new primer that will go in it.

What Remington hull are you guys talking about? Black or green or does it make a difference.

Thanks, John.

John,

I am talking about the newer Remington hulls as they get crispy on the crimp folds and crack after only one or two firings.

The older green Remington hulls would last probably 4 or 5 firings. I have never gotten very many firings using the black Remington hulls even back in the 1990's.

I have used the old geen Remington slug hulls, treated them as new, and fold crimped them. The crimps weren't picture perfect, but they would last several firings also. The crimps also looked better the more you reloaded them.

I sold at least 5,000 of the slug hulls many years ago......I wish I had them back!!

I've found the green express hulls to last longer then the RGL's. And they crimp better.Still like Federals the best. As a matter of fact because of this thread I ordered a couple of hundred green Remingtons from Precision last night. Gonna use them for Bismuth mostly. Very Happy
