I like to think dual beads helps with alignment, and when I've introduced someone to shotgunning I point out they can use a bead to make sure they're looking straight down the barrel but should not look at it afterwards.

Shooting trap this past week I once had to re-mount the gun. That was the only time I recall looking at the beads on the rib, on the re-mount, to make sure I was seeing what I was feeling. In repetitive games like that, feel is apparently my greater guide and surely the front bead is seen to various degrees of focus during each shot. The act of setting the gun incorrectly into my shoulder was the emphatic indication I'd done something wrong, not seeing the bead(s). I believe that carries over to more dynamic handling, at game or games that don't allow pre-mounted guns in which case not seeing beads, let alone ribs, must be very common.

A rib alone should be enough to confirm alignment of the eye, a bead or two would make it potentially faster, maybe more precise.

I've allways wondered as to what those beads or whatever are for on the front of my shotguns.

Populating internet forum pages, I think. I blame the Raybar.

Gentlemen,
Bead or no Bead it should not matter concentrate on the bird with both eyes, your gun mount should become an ingrained reflex action, especially when Grouse hunting.
The dog should be bringing the bird back before you have even realized you have gone into action.

I apparently don't pay any attention to the beads on any of my guns because this thread made me go look. Turns out the gun I use for sporting clays 3 days a week has a small brass bead on it. I guess I'm in the no bead camp.
Maybe it's mind over matter- if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
