Just shot my A5 Sweet 16 again for 100 rounds or so. Twice didn't cycle 1165 Herters loads. I plan to lube the rails as recommended by Browning. any other ideas? I see RST has developed a special A5 load. Anyone used it? |

Studdog, IIRC the Herter shells are a little longer. Occasionally they will hang up in my '52 and '65 swt16's. Haven't tried the Rst's, but will order some. Both cycle Remington, federal, and polywad 2 1/2 " with no issues.. |

I've put about a half dozen boxes of the 8's through mine while being bad at skeet, with no cycling issues.
Might be worth noting that the first 100 rounds I put through the gun it were the higher velocity 7.5's while being really bad at trap.
Not sure if that is enough to be considered a "break in" period, but might be worth your time to throw a few boxes of the higher velocity stuff through it and see if it helps (if you haven't already).

Studdog, Seems like when I asked RST about the difference between the Lite and A5 load it was just a different powder to give a little more pressure but same velocity. A call or email to them might confirm this, but I think they had old A5's in mind for the load, not your new one. |

RST is sending me some of their A5 loads to test. I'll report results. |

I had one fail to eject so far using the Herters target loads in my new model sweet sixteens. It appeared as if the hull was a little too long but that was the only issue I've had with ammo in that gun. Love these new sweets! |

It's not because Herter's are underpowered, or too long, it's the hulls. The rims are slightly undersized, and the plastic seems to cling to the chamber a bit more, resulting in dropped extraction. My 1100 does the exact same thing. Federals and RGL's cycle 100%. There seems to be lot to lot variation with Herters, sometimes they work fine.
I scrounged some once fired Browning hulls, and reloaded them with 1oz.. got dropped extraction twice in 25 rounds |

Shot the RST A5 shells. 50 rounds no problem. Thanks RST. Sometimes you get what you pay for! |

Great shells for break open guns. Repeaters--not so great. The won't work in my Ithaca 37's and cause problems in my Model 12's. RGLs--100% function. |

I remember my old autoloader, an 1100. I kind of accepted issues like this as part of life with an autoloader. I took up reloading and that gave flexibility. With factory ammo, using a different shell can add a lot of normally unnecessary cost for practice or target shooting.
One thing I did that helped my Remington was to polish the rails slick as glass using wet dry sand paper wrapped around a foam sanding block. I went down to 1500 grit and used oil with all grades. It might help the A5 as well, but doing so on a brand new gun is always a cause for apprehension. |

I have fired a case of the Herters 1165 through my new A5 and have never had an issue cycling these rounds through. In fact, I've never shot any other ammunition in the gun. I did disassemble my gun to clean and lube it when it was new. |

Mine cycles the Herters load almost all of the time. That's not good enough for me. RST's A5 load cycles all of the time. |
