Thanks for that. I think I got something in my eye......
My son Gordon was born on October 6, 2004. My first Llewelin setter, Ed, died at age 12 1/2, in the care of the dog sitter April 2, 2005 while I was away. Once we brought our son home in early October, Ed practically never left Gordon's side. Slept in his room and followed him everywhere. I never understood Ed's switch of allegiance, but it was real and serious. All it did was make me love her more. Have not been able to let go of her ashes.

Had to help my GSP move on to better hunting grounds the end of last year. Still can't bring myself to take his ashes to the field and lay him to rest. Dogs become so much a part of out lives. He gave me 14 1/2 years and stood by me through all kinds of changes.
Thanks for posting. I'm thinking first good frost I'll lay him to rest. He loved a good cold snap... I can still see him running circles in the morning snow, it just charged him up!
Great Story , brings back a lot of years , thanks for sharing . I currently have four dogs, three Setters and my old boy , GSP Zack at 16 years old . Pretty skinny now and a little wobbly on his feet but still going strong . Lot's of grey and lot's of memories . I cherish every day with him now .

My old dog Roscoe, or what's left of him, sits in a small carved wooden box on a side table in the living room with other reminders of our family's past. As we contemplate hurricane evacuation (hopefully no need), we always consider what we will take with us. Roscoe will be on the trip if we leave. He always liked sitting shotgun in my truck. Gil
PS: Garden and Gun, aka Better Guns and Garden, has the "Good Dog" feature in every magazine. The names and stories of well known authors often appear in the feature.
