Hey all, last weekend was our opener for Grouse and Huns, it was the poorest opener I've had in years, got 1 bird with my 28ga Dickinson, weather was hot, dry and windy. So.... today was a 180 from last weeks opener.decided to hit a couple of my honey holes and it payed off. Got a limit of Grouse, plus a bonus Hun. Weather was much better, overcast, 50 and lower winds. My GSP Raina did well also, happy with her! All in all a good day!

I was using my 16b Charles Boswell

Hey Mike, thanks! Well, I'd say about 3 give or take. I started about 1330 and was done by 1600. I hunted close to home and my "honey holes" are just short walks compared to some areas where I hunt.

Best,

Greg

gjw,

Real nice outing, great birds with a serious double gun, sweet stuff no doubt about it!

Greg, always good to see you open up the season in high style with your family. It's also a harbinger that our gundog seasons will be following in a couple of months. And when your seasons are over, and you are up to your eyeballs in snow, we will have two more months. Wink Best, Gil

Northern part of state? I am headed to North Dakota around the first of October to hunt cranes with an ailing friend who live to hunt them. You can't just buy a crane tag, you must purchase a small game or waterfowl license too.

Reports of upland birds in the south west part of the state are as grim as I have ever heard and that is from friends who farm there, not the game department. So I am unsure which to go with. If grouse and huns will be available up north then I am happy with that. But...duck hunting is always good and I am receiving good reports from the pea fields. So when that opens up...

Good to hear Greg..talking with hunters west of the river and they are also saying the numbes are down. Mid state got hit with that late cold and storm, so I suspect the phez are down but the sharpies are better adapted. So are the sloughs dried up...always try to get pups into so small water ducks.

Great work and you had fun to boot. A nice bag of birds. I got out the last two days for grouse and woodcock. We saw few grouse (too warm) and lots of woodcock and the latter season opens this Saturday. But we had a great time and saw some nice dog work.

Good Hunting,
Mike
