Hello,

I have been sitting the sidelines here at 16ga.com for a long time. I have picked up a lot of worthy information from these pages and feel it is time to join in.

I am a machinist by trade. I collect and shoot vintage American SxS's when time allows. I do gunsmthing by appointment(precision rifles), and study and document the lesser known American SxS mechanisms.

Among my aquistions are several 16ga guns and this is the year I have chosen to christen them back into the fields.

Thank you,

Welcome in. The Cabelas in LaVista has an Ithaca double marked New Ithaca Gun (it's a 12ga). First one I'd seen, always something interesting popping up out there.

kgb,

I checked Cabelas site but came up empty for any NIG's.
NIG normally refers to the Hammer models after the Baker and before the Two-Bolt HG. But some of the first Ithaca Hammerless guns had the "NEW ITHACA GUN" roll stamp.

There are three variants of the NIG Hammer gun. I am still looking for the first two types.

John

John, it's on the racks outside of the library and likely not listed on their website. Don't know if they take it literally, but those racks are outside the "Library" proper and may not count.

John E,

Welcome to the best sporting forum on the net, glade to have another American Classic double gun collector posting. I have a nice Classic American double gun collection also, and use the guns to bird hunt with each and every season. 90% of my bird hunting is done on Grouse and woodcock.

Pine Creek/Dave

A little Classic LeFever/Ithaca eye candy for ya from the 1920's.

My error, it's a 10ga NIG.

PineCreek/Dave,

I remember earlier posts about that high grade Nitro Special. I don't think I could bring myself to take something that into the field.

And Thank you all for the warm welcome,

John s,

No matter how inexpensive or expensive my double guns happen to be, they all get used in the Grouse woods, the family gun safe has no show Queens. Thanks for the nice complement however.

Hope you enjoy participating here on the 16 forum!

Well, when I realized I had as many 16'as I did 20's, and the heft and balance was so superb, that it was as much a duty as it was a want for me to be here. Now to trek the fields.
