Had a great time in Eastern Montana last week with friends and family. It was hot, in the 90's, and they're in the second year of a drought, but we didn't have much trouble finding enough birds to keep us going. Beautiful country and everybody we met was friendly. The wildfires were a little west of us but it was hazy and when the wind turned out of the west, it got pretty smoky. (Haven't figured out this Imgur thing yet)

Beautiful country out there. Nice to hear a positive report as there is a lot of doom and gloom reports lately with the prairie states. Thx for sharing. |

It's strange to see the words "Montana" and "hot" in the same sentence. However, you made the best of it. Great trip. Gil |

I'm heading out to the same area this Thursday to hunt for 3 days. Since you were there they have gotten some nice rain and the temps have cooled off. Looks like highs in the 60's and lows in the upper 30's while I'll be there.
Nice pics. Love the SxS, what brand is it? |

Good for you! We knocked off about 11-12 because it was so hot. Didn't have any trouble finding birds, but its been so dry, stay close to alfalfa or anything green or wet and that's where the birds were. The little 16 is a Bertuzzi.(No, its not for sale) Good luck! |

looks like you had a great hunt cowdoc!
I had planned on heading up there this September but the drought changed my mind. Maybe next year I'll make it up that way. I'm glad you guys got into birds. Were you hunting public or private? |

Josh, We hunted two ranches- one private and one that was signed up in the Montana Walk-in program. |

We hunted the public WIH areas when we went. Thing is when we walked out of one and was looking at the atlas for the next place to hunt a rancher stopped to ask how we did. As it happens we were skunked. He gave us directions to his ranch house. Said the yard was covered with pheasants go get some. Limited out. Being from TX that was really great. |

Ray-citori,
Welcome to Montan life, some of the greatest people in the world live in Montana, in fact lots of the original Montana people moved from Pa to Montana many years ago to settle the state. They wanted freedom from politicians and a different kind of state government, so they set up a system where everything must be voted on before any taxes instituted. The original people are the salt of the earth, friendly and down to earth. You just found that out with the rancher you bumped into. Congrats on your great time in Montana.

Everybody I met was rude, the whole state is an armpit, no birds, the women are homely and smell like goats, the scenery is nothing spectacular, the rivers are cesspools. I would never recommend anybody ever go there- ever |

skeettx,
Not OREGON heck those people are decent compared to NJ and eastern NY Gun Control crazies. Beside there are so few OREGON people you hardly notice them.
