My new Sweet 16 will run the Herters shells most of the time. My 37 Ithaca runs them 100%. The 1400 Winchester doesn't like them at all. HOWEVER, once I reload them, all three guns will run on the hand loads. I actually bought the Ithaca to shoot up Herters shells I bought for the Winchester. Buying a gun to shoot up two flats of shells for reloading made perfect sense to me. I haven't come up with an excuse for buying the Browning except I wanted it.

I've shot the Herter shells through an 1100, 1148, two Sweet Sixteens, a 37, a Mossberg 190, a NEF Pardner, and a German guild gun. No problem in any of the guns, but I noticed the rim was bent a little where the 1148 extractor pulled the shell out. It doesn't do it to other brands. |

Just shot my A5 Sweet 16 again for 100 rounds or so. Twice didn't cycle 1165 Herters loads. I plan to lube the rails as recommended by Browning. any other ideas? I see RST has developed a special A5 load. Anyone used it?

I have a new a5 16 as well, and in the 50 rounds I shot I too had a couple of hang ups with the Herter shell. I was told it could be because the gun is new. I am not to worried about seeing the price of the shells. |

Knock on wood; mine hasn't had a hiccup yet through a few hundred Herter's and some Federal hunting loads. i'm very happy with my new SW16. |

I've got about 700 through mine as well without an issue, although I'd say the 1165FPS loads are the minority, mostly have been the 1280(?)FPS 7.5's, followed by Herter's reloads that are also 1250 or so.
Probably 4-6 boxes or so of the Herter's 8's right out of the box though without issue.
I did probably go overboard on cleaning/lubing every time before I shot it, as I'd heard of others having issues before I got mine out. And I did make sure the first flat that went through it were all the higher velocity loads. Not sure if that makes a hill of beans of difference or not though.
I really love this gun, I shoot it well (for me), carries wonderfully, knocked down a few grouse last weekend when I pointed it in the right direction , and it managed to absorb my usual early season abuse as I rumbled, bumbled, ducked, tripped, sweated and swore my way through opening weekend....not sure how many times I asked myself out loud "why again am I not fishing today...."
Knock on wood. (gently though so as not to split the stock!) |

Sad to report my new sweet that cycled 2 boxes of RST A 5 ammo fine just had several fail to cycle with the same ammo. I was firing Herters 1165 fps at the same event and zero failure to feed with them. FWIW. Who can tell? |

I'm getting 1 FTE every 50 rounds or so, in my SW16 and 1100. But I'm only using then on 5-stand,
and for $55/ case, who cares? |

Have had some extraction issues with them in my 37 Ithaca as well. Seem to work well in my other 16's. |

For informal clays shooting you can't beat the value. My gun only fails to cycle with herters once in a while. But, for hunting I want 100% reliability. I've had good results with Fiocchi hotter loads. Has anyone found a 1 ounce load at 1200 FPS or so that cycles 100%? |

Rio makes a 1oz load that is I believe 1300 fps.
Not 100% sure but I think I have a box or two in the safe at home.
Are RGL's 1200? |

RST's A5 load is 1200 FPS. They are 2 1/2 inch shells made for the older A5's. I shot 50 thru my new sweet without a problem then had several fail to cycle. Herters only fail to cycle once in a while. The Herters fail to eject the spent shell the RST's eject the spent shell and fail to load the next shell? |

My A5 won't eject Focchi short brace rounds. Haven't tried Herter however all other ammo works fine. Use what rounds I had left in my o/u |
