Yes, Rick Grimes -- Super dog and it is great to see a nice hammer gun which has done its job -- in your capable hands, of course! Tell us how you carry it and operate it in the woodcock/grouse woods. Do you carry "cocked and open" or "closed and un-cocked"? I suppose you have time before the flush in a pointed situation to either close or cock, whatever the case may be. What works best for you? Someday I'll have my old hammer gun ready for this type of shooting -- love to hear of your technique.

Thanks,
Tony Lowe

It appears the snow moving through pushed out most of the woodcock, but the grouse seemed to have once again surfaced here in Wisconsin...Finally!

Here are some of the results from the dogs today-sorry the overcast weather didn't allow for better lighting...

Tony

I carry closed and uncocked. As I near the point I cock and keep my finger outside the trigger guard until the flush.
Thanks for the compliment. For me the moment is just a little sweeter when you take a bird with a 100+ year old gun.

Beautiful dog Rick! Not a bad looking gun either.

That WC looks rather plump. Obviously a slow flyer Wink

Plump and slow could also be used to describe me. Laughing Laughing

I lucked into my slings on this site. http://forums.gunboards.com/forumdisplay.php?50-Swedish-Civilian-amp-Sporting-Firearms
A fellow had several for sale a few years ago and I bought them.

You could also look here. https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=6
In their European hunting sling category they have several similar slings.

Got here late of course, and have now browsed the entirety of this great thread -- thanks all for the photos and stories.

Wingshooter! -- Nice Hat! -- Flatwater 2013 -- The second to last Flatwater, I believe. I've got that one. I've got the last two. Sorry The Flatwater is no longer. Could it ever come back?

Cheers!

Hey all, had to work today, but was able to get in a couple hours after with my son Jim. We had our first snow (that stuck) yesterday, so it was still a bit chilly and breezy. Jim wingshot one and he gave Raina the slip. I was able to get 2, so only 2 in bag today. This damn Daylight Savings is going to put a crimp in my after work hunts, but we'll still be getting out come hell or high water!

I used my 12ga Buhag Hubertus today

Hey all, well had to work today so had a short time for hunting after. It was a short hunt, thanks Daylight Savings!!!!! Saw quite a few birds, but they were spooky today. Oh well each day is different. Raina did well today. Would have lost this bird without her.

Anyway, I used my 12b Coggie Konor

gjw,

Beautiful guns and birds, tell us more about your guns if you can. Year made, in what country, are they chambered 2 1/2 or 2 3/4? Both look to be very fine double guns!

Just returned from South Dakota yesterday. My partner and I hunted 4 days and limited the 1st and 4th days with two 3-bird days in-between, so we brought home 18 roosters from a combination of public areas and ditches. It wasn't easy hunting and very dry, but we caught a break and woke up to snow the last day.

Here's my 21 month old Draht and the last day's birds. My 10 1/2 year old also had a great trip and he has a lot left in him for his age. They traded off.

This helped.

Dixie turned 11 this past April, she still has it in her if we keep the hunts short. Used my Simson today with roll-crimp papers.
