I turned 59 on Monday 11/13. Decided that the thing I wanted to do most was to take my good friends out to try to scratch down a Minnesota rooster.
It was a great day. They did their part, and I did mine. Two shots- ITX-10 reloads on WPA land and I had my limit. I only had to walk 16000 steps to to make the two shots.... According to my Alpha 100, my younger dog ran 14 miles.
My 1932 M21 30" 16ga has been treating me well this year. It has the finest straight grained fencepost stock you've ever seen.... but I love it. That fancy wood just adds carry weight to a field gun. |

Hey all, my son Will came home on Leave (from the Army) early this morning (at 3:30 am!!!) and after we slept a bit we did what we love the most....bird hunting. It was a good day with both my sons. We got birds and had a good time spending time with each other. Jim was the hot gun today, he limited (but lost one) and got a grouse. Will got two (but lost lost one) and I got one and a grouse. Raina did well, some very nice points.
My two best hunting partners in the world, Jim and Will

gjw,
Thank your son for his service in the US Army. As a CID Special Agent all those men and their families were my responsibility. Good bless everyone of them who takes the oath to protect and defend the US Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic.
Have a great time while you are on leave.

Hey all, the boys and I went out today, not much luck. We hunted at a friends ranch today, didn't see many birds however. Just on of those days. I managed one and that was all for today.
My daughter made a marker for our old GSP Duchess. She's laid to rest where she had many good hunts with us. She looks over us when we hunt there and is with us in spirit. Sure do miss her

Spent ten days in South Dakota (hunted 9)
Found enough birds to keep us going. Partner & I each had off days on the shooting!
Anyway this guy is in his 14th season & pointed a double (got one)
Got that bird with the pre ww1 Sauer (12 ga)
This little guy is a work in progress. Just catching on to pointing / relocating / handling roosters.
This bird was shot over the Pup.
Scurfy lookin hunting partner & one of the better days
Not grouse but certainly elegant birds

Greg,
Nice outing and I love the old H&A side lock, one serious double gun!
Fourtrax,
Great pictures of the dogs, birds and boys, along with some sweet double guns!

Took the Settany out today Ruff hunting. Shot one with the 1941 rem model 11 just
purchased yesterday. Hard telling when that gun last killed a grouse. The Settany had the bird pinned down tight. It was fun reblooding an old gun. Had to put the camera battery in my shirt pocket to warm it enough for it to power up the P&S camera. Only about 17* F this AM. Grouse was a juvenile russet phase.
