Test fired my new-to-me Kreighoff drilling today and experienced a pierced primer with the left barrel. Had previously fired some 2.5" vintager shot loads without incident, but today tried some 2.5" Brenneke slugs to see where they printed. Noted the pierced primer at once, of course, upon opening the gun.

Inspection with a magnifying glass showed the left firing pin tip to look a bit eroded, amd the firing pin hole perhaps a bit enlarged. Seems odd that this has developed on the left barrel before the right, as most doubles seem to have the right barrel used much more than the left. Go figure.

Anyway, would appreciate recomendations on who to send it to for correction. Cole Gunsmithing here in Maine comes to mind. Other recommendations welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Whichever is the more appropriate repair. If the pin hole is in fact eroded that might have to be bushed in some fashion, or perhaps a slightly larger pin installed. If fixing the original pin will suffice, fine. Avoiding gas blow-by into the lockwork is the ultimate concern.

On most of these older German guns the firing pin is integral to the hammer, so having someone weld up and reshape the firing pin is much less expensive. When I broke the hammer/firing pin on my Simson I had a ‘smith pin it back together. Having a new one machined and fit is difficult, expensive and hard to find someone who can do it. I would talk to New England Custom Guns. They are relatively close to you.
