Any recommendations on a gunsmith to open up the choke on a barrel? Want a decent job but don't want to spend an arm and a leg. Thanks.

If you want to go real cheap, I opened a choke on an Iver Johnson single barrel with a automobile brake cylinder hone. went thru a few sets of stones and took it from a tight full to a tight mod.

Mike Orlen - good price, great turnaround. I have two guns that were opened up and wouldn't think of using anyone else.

Opened bores on my Webley Scott 16 ga double. Master barrel gunsmith and charges $40 per barrel. Great guy and easy to talk with!

If you are handy, you can do the job yourself.

Note that Mike Orlen is the author of the above article.

I purchased two adjustable reams and have opened the chokes on several guns. The reams cost about $40/each.

It is best to work slowly and fire patterns with the ammunition that you like until you achieve the choke performance that you desire.
