Does anyone have a 3/4 or 7/8 oz load using the DR wad and Cheddite hulls that will reliably cycle in one of the new A5 Sweet Sixteens?
Thanks,

The recoil is almost nonexistent with 1 oz. loads in the A5 SW16, so why bother with the weeny loads? |

In my circa early 1960's sweet 16, I use fiocchi hull and primer, dr16, 5/8 oz lead, and 22.5 grains green dot @ 1450fps. This is the lower end combo of mass and velocity to usually cycle the gun. I do not know if this will translate to your new gun or not; but it may give you some ideas to work with. |

I don’t need a full 1 oz to shoot skeet and five stand.
Thanks for the link Oldhunter. |

Dave--I guess as a group-we/skeet shooters/don't like heavy loads--Why use more than you need???Even when shooting clays I use loads from 3/4--1 1/8 in the 16--I match the target to the clay---reducing recoil and the cost--- |

My favored load is 16.6 gr of Green Dot with either 3/4 or 7/8 oz in the cheddite w/DR16; but I shoot a Dbl Brl so don't know if it will cycle the action. I do know that I can shoot a full course against guys that are shooting 12 ga's and I'm still fine when they are complaining about sore shoulders. |

· Cheddite Blue Hull (16 mm brass) 2 ¾” 16 ga
· Fed209A Primer
· 20 grains Greendot powder
· DR16 wad (Downrange)
FPS (1489, 1499, 1467, AVG 1485 ES 32)
PSI (10400, 9400, 10100, AVG 9966 ES 1000) |

I totally get that and I reload light 7/8 oz loads by the thousands for my lighter doubles. However my autos including my SW16 soak up the recoil, so I can shoot inexpensive factory ammo. I buy the 1 oz factory Herter's when on sale with free shipping and reserve them for my SW16, and I have inexpensive 12 ga target ammo on reserve for my 12 gauge auto. Factory ammo also tends to function better in autos and the extra oomph never leaves you wondering if the next batch will cycle your action. The empties are saved for light reloads in my doubles. I shoot my doubles at targets a lot more than my autos, so the hull producing ratio works and doesn't break the bank. Different thoughts I guess. I didn't mean to stir up trouble! |

Either he's hungry, needs a nap, or a diaper change. |

What primer do you use with that load?
Thanks |

I have a 3/4 & a 7/8 oz. load
3/4oz.
Cheddite 2 3/4" green hull
Winchester 209 primer
18.0 Grains American Select
DR-16 wad
3/4 oz. lead shot
1,339 FPS 9,480 PSI
7/8 oz.
Cheddite 2 3/4" green hull
Winchester 209 primer
23.0 Grains Universal
DR-16 wad
7/8 oz. lead shot
1,424 FPS 11,180 PSI
You can reduce both loads by 2.0 grains of powder and still have a reliable load.
The 7/8 oz. load will definitely cycle the new Browning A5. It cycles the original A5 Sweet with no issues.
Tom Armbrust did the testing on both loads. |
