Hello,

I am finally getting around to reloading for the first time. I received a reloader for christmas and just got it set up. A friend of mine had a bunch of stuff left over from when he reloaded and gave it to me. I am trying to see if any recipes can be used with the things i already received for free. I got 209 primers (not 209a), clay buster wads and herters hulls. I want to reload with 6 shot. I just dont know what kind of powder I should get as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use those components with Unique powder.
Best advice I can give is buy a Lyman reloading manual. And you can get lots of data on line from powder manufacturers.

Watch for serious leakage with the combo of Longshot, Claybuster wads, and Herters hulls. It is a superb powder in terms of performance and I use the heck out of it with these wads and hulls, but I pre-flare the powder cup on my wads first. Otherwise it is blooper city after I hike with shells in my pockets.

800-x leaks past nothing. Unique and Herco are great powders too.

I should have said this also.
I use Unique for most loads but for heavy/fast pheasant loads, I use Longshot.

For the herters hull I would use the sg16 or dr16 wad depending on the amount of shot you want and that will also determine the powder you need . For 3/4 to 7/8oz I use GreenDot , for 1oz I use Unique for 1 1/8 oz I use Longshot and 800x . But there are other good powders for those applications .

For 16 ga I use two powders: Green dot for Light loads, Blue Dot for Heavy loads. But I only shoot break action guns so don't need to concern myself with matching the optimum operating pressures to cycle a repeater, So if you are using a "gas gun" you may need to take that aspect into consideration.
