I've adopted my Uncle's 11-48. I"ve used it for some hunting and now want to begin using it for skeet. Price of shells means I'll want to reload. I want to preserve the gun as long as possible, meaning lighter loads. I've searched, but haven't been able to find a recommended pressure to ensure consistent cycling of the action. Will likely use 7/8 oz loads.
If anybody has good info, please let me know.
Thanks in advance! |

Just buy a flat of Herter's 1oz 8's, you'll be good to go. Moderate pressure, great performance. Unless your stock is cracked, I don't see why you would need to use light loads. |

I haven't had much luck getting my Sweet Sixteens or my Sportsman 48 to cycle reliably with anything less than 1 oz of shot at 2-1/2 DR EQ. If you drop the shot weight, you'll need to boost velocity. How much, I can't advise because I've settled on the 1 oz load. |

Very interesting stuff. The 16 has a long ring (maybe 1 1/4 inch) at the top of the recoil spring that is stamped "This end forward towards muzzle for all loads."
I recently bought a 20ga (i'm going to collect all 5), and it has a very narrow ring (1/2 inch?) that is stamped for light and heavy loads. I cannot get the 20 gauge to work with the ring in it. The action won't close. It works fine when i remove it, in fact had one of my best skeet rounds ever with it.
Maybe I need to mess around with it a little more.
Thanks the quick replies on the load info. Good prices on the Herter's! some of the cheapest factory 16ga i've seen! |

my 2 just have the ring at the end of the recoil spring . They will generally handle anything more than 5/8 and have shot some 13/8 thru the bent barrel to see how it went . no worries . generally shot 365/383 grn loads for targets - NICE !! |
