just giving everyone a heads up that my time on 16ga is somewhat limited.
seems my computer works fine in mo and conn....but for some reason it wont load key websites in va..
someone told me that net neutrality may be part of it...or net blocking is occuring with my provider.
i carry a laptop, so its not like i changed any settings...it just wont load in certain states.
i tried the firewall off thing. no change. i tried customizing blockers etc...still no change, so i gave up.
i will get in as much as i can while im here in mo, until late apr.
then, with byron whitlock and roadkills help, i can relay msgs to you guys.
best way to get me is email.
at least it still works..sometimes.

fyi.

In Va, you may have a WI-FI signal that is restricted for non-gun sites.
You may have to go in and approve this kind of access.

Many schools and other places put restrictions on their WI-FI signals

How do you log in your laptop there?

You may just need to log on to a different WI-FI signal

Mike

All the Owners partners etc all hunted. But one of them was such a control freak he limited our online access by telling the IT guys to block all questionable sites. The rest ofthe partners had to override him. He would have blocked everything that wasnt bussiness related if he could have figured aout a way to do it.

Not a partner with him anymore. Smile

My problems ended when I said heck with it and tried a cheap, used macbook. Still using it 4 years later and it's a 2008 model.

Not knowing much about computers, but to me this problem is not about a computer, it is about an internet provider censoring what they will provide, talk to fellow gun owners, shooters in your area, see who provides them their internet service.

This can't be every provider in those states. Number one, get rid of dial up if you can swing it!

rather put money into guns than get upgraded............just for one state. as long as it works 4 months out of the year....i can live with it.
ironically, save for some interesting sites, my interest on websites is dwindling. seems more an more, trash is blowing in and i dont enjoy it as much. 10, 15 years ago, it was a novelty. now its just crammed with ads and spam and seems to be getting more and more owned by one corp that has turned all the sites into one big site with different names, just to get more ad space.
i enjoy this old school website. its a classic.

I just had too many annoying issues at inopportune times. Then I found myself in a long term situation where I couldn't afford to waste time gutting my laptop's brain and fixing things anymore. The little macbook I use for most of my internet stuff and travels can be bought for darn little money now days (because it's old). The stress relief alone has been worth what I paid.

I print off it whenever I need to, write up documents, and if I ever need other features of the Microsoft Office package, they are there. It's not like an iPad, the macbook has all of the connection points that a regular laptop uses.

The outfit I bought mine from already had installed that software. I bought from Gordy's Gadgets (very helpful guy who answered any questions I had, by phone no less), they have a store on e-bay. There are a lot of other businesses that specialize in refurbishing old macs on there too.
