I'm looking for a 16 gauge semi-auto to use chukar hunting. Relatively light weight, reliability, and condition are most important. I understand Beretta made such a gun years ago - I'd love to find one! An older Remington 1100 would work, or ?? If you have one for sale, or know of one for sale, please let me know. Also, if you have a suggestion to look for a particular gun, let me know what it is.
Thanks!! |

I recently purchased a Rem Mdl 48 Sportsman. It feels good. Is lighter than the 1100's. It swings and feels fine. I also found the old Rem 11 Sportsman a great 16g for the money. The Beretta bunch has not, to my knowledge, made a 16g outside of their older SxS's. Good luck on your quest.

None of them hold a candle to the classic Browning A5, Sweet Sixteen.
Or, just 10 oz heavier, the standard 16 ga A5.

Let me throw this out: Ron and Jeff are both right. I have both the Rem 11-48 and the Sweet Sixteen. I like both (and my son loves the Rem). One difference is cost. 11-48 you'll find for $200-250. Sweet Sixteen will probably cost twice that. (Yes, sometimes great deals are to be found, but many FN Sweet Sixteens go for much more than $500, too).
And then there's the new 1100 at Cabela's.
Choices, choices . . .
(But I do have to admit that if you can find a decent price on a Sweet Sixteen, it's a real classic!) |

I was at a gun show yesterday and there was one 16 that I would have owned and the dealer was asking $1599. it was clean. there was one with cutts for 1399. not as clean it's just nuts. |

Some of the asking prices are just stupid, especially at gun shows. Only NIB guns actually sell at that kind of price. There are decent deals to be had. Just this week on this board a nice Sweet was offered for $600.
I bought been involved in 2 other transactions for Sweets for around $600 in the last 10 months. Smart buyers work harder and pay less.

I know a guy here in Ohio with a 16 ga Savage 775a for sale. Shipping costs might factor in with FFLs and all but he wants less than $200 and says it is in great shape. |

I have a Remington model 58 16 gauge I'm thinking of selling. Also have a Savage fox BSE series h 16 gauge I'd sell. Have an A5 Browning 16 gauge that I cannot part with. Nothing else compares with the Browning. |

It's interesting to hear the opinions of others on 16 ga. The first gun I bought was in 1964 when I was 12. It was a Model 37 16 ga. I loved that gun and I couldn't miss with it. It, however, had a bad time ejecting low brass shells. It was stolen in transit back to Ithaca for repairs. UPS settled with me and I then went out with my money from cutting lawns and purchased a Sweet 16. It fit well but I never liked the sight line and shot much poorer with it. I sold it and went to an 1100. I eventually inherited 2 Model 12s, one from my grandfather and one from his brother. I love those two and spend a lot of time in the field with them. I guess I just like shucking. That however does not explain my Citori does it????? |

Spunky: Good choice though on both counts: the 2 Model 12's AND the Citori---great guns all ! Merry Christmas.... |
