I'm trying to duplicate the 16 gauge Xpert loads offered many years ago. Appears Winchester used a WCF hull, W209, WAA wad 1 1/8 oz shot. Anybody have a recipe using Unique or HS-6? Thanks Jeff

Per the 13th Edition of Winchester reloading components catalog the factory duplication load for Xpert Field Load is: WWCF hull, W209 Primer, 24.5 grains W540 aka HS6, WAA16 wad, 1 1/8 oz shot. Yield is 1185 fps (DE2 3/4) 10,900psi.

Thanks AM! I wonder if and at what level Unique could be substituted?

12th edition page 26 has the same load marked as the factory duplication load as AmericanMeet shared from the 13th.

They also have a load with 26.5 gr 540 using SP16 wad with the same velocity but listed as 8,800LUP (not psi).

The yahoo pages list a CF load with 18.5 gr. of Unique, W209, 1.125 wt., with a Rem R16 (a SP-16 can be used with little difference in pressure) at 1160 and 9800 from Lyman's third. Close to the 540/HS-6 load, with less pressure.

My experience is that many 1.125 oz. loads get "over-full" in CF cases when WAA16 wads are used anyway, especially if bulky powders such as Unique are used.

I'd love to get a copy or look at the Winchester reloading guide you guys mention. Where can I get one, or a digital copy, it would be a great addition to my reloading resources! Thx!

I've got the 12th, 13th and 14th edition, I'll scan them for you and send them when I get a chance.

Since websites are seen as the answer to everything, even questions that weren't asked, I suspect the companies such as Winchester that previously printed catalogs showing their products and reloading data have discontinued doing so. It may be possible to check with Winchester customer service and see if they have the data available on a website. I have several catalogs from Winchester, Hercules and others that are from BI (Before Internet) and can scan any you want & e-mail them to you.

Thx Joe.
American meet, thx also, but I think I have all of the Alliant and Hercules old manuals already. But I've never seen a Winchester one.

You used to be able to get them at stores that stocked reloading supplies, the 14th edition says 1994 on it, last time I ever saw anything available from Winchester was 2001 Components Catalog. Now as was stated everything is supposed to be on the Websites, these catalogs IMO have a lot more information than on any website.

castnblast -- Forget about Unique for a 16 gauge 1 1/8 ounce load in a compression formed Win-West hull. Unique is much faster burning than Win540MS/HS-6, and that hull, with its relatively low capacity and parabolically shaped base, seems to make so-called burn rates and pressures higher than the flatter bottomed higher capacity hulls like Feds and Euro hulls (Fiocchi, Cheddite and Martignoni). You'd be better off with something like Longshot, or maybe Blue Dot, though Blue Dot is quite bulky.

If a guy was willing to go 1 1/16oz in a WWCF and a WWAA wad, wonder if Unique could work?

The old Hercules manuals only list one 16ga load with Unique in CF hull and it is with a Rem SP16 wad. 16ga CF hulls & Unique were not meant to be together.

If you need to use up a large supply of Unique, get some Cheddite hulls or a 45 Colt and some Missouri Bullet Co high-tech 250gr lead. I burn through a lot of Unique with those two...

Unique is fine in Cf hulls and the win wad with 1 oz of shot . just not ideal for 1 1/8 oz
