What part of human nature makes us want to stop and stare at something like that?

BTW when I expanded the photo ( of course I did) it looks like the lower tang has a slight dogleg to it, hopefully it was in the original state.

I had almost the same thing happen to my Merkel 1620. I was packing for a trip to South Dakota with my wife to pheasant hunt and had stacked our luggage and guns in the basement with the guns, in soft cases, leaning against the deep freeze. The dogs were excited and running around and when I came back in the guns had fallen over landing on the luggage. I picked them up and when I put them in the truck I noticed the Merkel was bent where it shouldn't bend. It was broken through the wrist and I was sick. Sad
I had it repaired but it didn't last. The guy who fixed it said there was a lot of pulp wood through the wrist and predicted it would be weak. It broke later in another area on the wrist.
Yours looks great and I hope it lasts for another 100 years!
