Took my Lefever Nitro Special to the range on Saturday. Shot 2 rounds of trap and a round at Sporting Clays. Swings so sweet, when I am on it won't miss. Ithaca Gun Co made a wonderful gun and there is something special that happens when you shoot a classic SxS. |

I agree nwmac, it is a special thing. Makes a joy in your heart that puts a smile on your face. When you shoot it well, just makes it that much better. |

I also find that my Lefever Nitro Special is my go to gun when I go hunting. I have several other 16 gauges, but I always grab the Lafever when the time comes for a hunt.
The look, feel, weight and balance are all perfect for me. It never lets me down. |

A good reminder to pull my Nitro Special out again. It's been sitting in a case for a long time. Have kept it lightly rubbed with an oily rag from time to time but haven't shot it for at least a couple of years. It was my second SxS, the first being a Savage (Stevens?) 311 I think, that felt like I was swinging a plank. After that, when I shot my Lefever it was like handling a willow switch. Could not tell you why I haven't shot it a lot more than I have.

1937 vintage 2 3/4" chamber, CYL and MOD chokes.
Hunting last fall, with my Setter, Louise. She pinned the bird, twice:

I own a bunch of good doubles that cost a lot more than this one. But, I still use this one regularly, and last year it was the gun that got used the most. I laid in a good supply of Heavi-Shot in size 6 for the gun,a few years past, and used it whenever I had to shoot non toxic.
It is a great, 6lb 2 oz gun.
Best,
Ted |

My Lefever is choked Full and Modified. I am concerned about the non-toxic loads and so far have used the gun for clays and quail, so lighter loads with lead is the order of the day. With the full choke is Heavi-shot ok or should I just avoid non-toxic loads. |
