Nice work! May I ask what you used for the stock finish? I like the sheen you have on the stock. Perfect for a classic firearm.

It’s simple tung oil Mike. Hand rubbed to that sheen is all.
Thanks for the compliment.

Just an update...I think I am pretty much finished with what I wanted to do to make this package complete. I got a case for it...

I had to change the interior around a bit to make the specific accessories fit. Not as hard as one might think. The felt I got wasn't a perfect match, but close enough...

Here it is all put to bed...

Also got set up for "business" too. I have a few leads on some loads but I need to determine what the twist is and what will stabilize best in this little beauty.

The S+B factory shells will more than suffice in the meantime for any deer hunting I may do. I am absolutely itching to get it out for pheasants. Raining today and I don't want to get it wet *sigh*.

Looks good Steve, where do you go for pheasants. Hullett?
Had a good chat and some IPA’s with Dan a few weeks ago. He was telling me you were looking at drilling’s. the weather doesn’t look like it is going to cooperate for a bit.

Yep, Hullett mainly then Pelee. Dans going too. Should be able to test her out.

The model 12 will be in the mix too.

Steve

Well, I connected with the drilling this weekend on Pelee island. The first game taken by me with this gun was a hen pheasant. Maybe a bit fitting, as that was my first game bird ever taken on my first hunt at 15 years old.

I admittedly fumbled with the greener safety a few times before I got onto it. I found myself selecting the rifle barrel when the action got hot. By noon, I had it figured out.

Felt good to get it back into use...

Now, onto big game...

dilly,

Great job on the 60's drilling, looks like you are having fun with the gun already.
Make sure you keep us up to date on the latest hunt, with more pictures!

I already wanted a Sauer Drilling, now I want one even more!

WOW.

A lucky man 'living the dream' - best of luck to you.

An excellent photo-journalistic forum.

I have one (actually two) very small contribution(s) to add to this very enjoyable 'look & read'

Although this type of sporting arm is referred to as a 'drilling', it is actually a 'dreilling', which is in deference to the German number 3 (i.e. drei) in that it has 3 barrels.

My second bit of minutia is - as lovely as this arm is, it would be 'verboten' to take hunting in Massachusetts (which is where I live).

Well, I got to meet both Dilly and his drilling this past Saturday and both were a treat. Dilly made the trek to join us at our 5th annual Double Gun Classic held at the Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club. (Drilling count as doubles, LOL).

It's a casual affair, the purpose of which is to meet other SxS enthusiasts, shoot our guns and drool over some others' guns. And it was a big success. 16's were very well represented although it was a William Lancaster 12 gauge that won Best Gun award. As I was involved in the vote count I can say with certainty that Dilly's drilling got a few votes. Not too shabby given that it was up against names like Purdey, H & H, Parker, Fox and many more.

We will be holding the 6th Annual at a similar time next year and all are welcome. I will be posting a notice on this board next year, several months in advance we we have the dates confirmed.

Thanks again for the invite. I had a great day that day. There were some breathtaking guns there and it is always nice to get compliments from your peers.
