hi gang. i want to clear the air and make sure everyone knows im not frustrated.
i understand people have lives. i certainly do. i just like to be able to share my harvest with people whenever and wherever possible.
being that my shoots are more like family picnics, im not under pressure to make numbers to pay bills to keep the range open. it is for the most part a closed club. its NOT a profit venture rest assure. being its opened for my personal use only 8 weeks a year? it would be lunacy. everything about my place is private and for private use. when byron mentioned the fun you guys have up north, byron mentioned the idea of having one down south here in mo. i got logged into 16ga.com and set it up for him.
if there is a hint of frustration, its my concern for byron. he had high hopes of drawing some good people to this. with only 3 members signed up so far, i feel for him. ive been able to augment the shoot by inviting locals and some others from other sites, but no matter what website it is...getting 10 people to be in the same place off the net is like replenishing ships with fresh milk in the pacific every 10 days. i understand hunting. but theres hunting every month in this world. it can be used as the universal excuse, and is, in many cases. heck, i had guys on some sites tell me its big game season in africa, and they couldnt make it. lol.
THE mr. mcmillan canceled a visit because it was bear season in alaska. he use to supply stocks for us when i was with the SEALS, so i invited him to may place. hunting is never ending, so your bird hunting isnt much of a shock to my senses.
im pretty clear and precise on my posts. im going to have to assume since not everyone has desktops with 20" screens anymore, that swiping and enlarging text on smart phones is too much work....and many dont take the time to read details. at the top of my flyer posted on every page since april, i give updates. the latest one on this page says....we got the 10 needed and that the shoot is locked in.
i dont collect money and cancel things. thats not right. the meet is on.
what i am doing is preparing people that on average.. if 10 sign up 3 wont make it. i do this to let visitors be prepared for low turn outs. when i book 20+, the shoots tend to be bigger and more prizes make it. 21 people at 33% means 7 wont show. and it still holds pretty true. 14 make it. i seem to be able to fill in those slots with locals every 6 months. and when i do....we get a big shoot like we did in 2015.
my fields need cutting, so im there whether its big or small numbers. i only ask for 10 to keep visitors pleased they didnt travel long distances for nothing. i also understand not everyone is retired and travel is limited. jobs require more hours these days and free time is priceless. my farm visit im sure is low man on the totem pole. my only goal is to try to offer something people decide is worth doing and to show others what it takes to pull one of these shoots off if they are considering one in their area. maybe numbers will be higher in april. and again, im not competing for people. i just like to have friendly people visit my life and farm. ive met a lot of good people. i look forward to meeting more. fourtrax came for a meet and had a great time. roadkill liked it enough to do it for 3 years from tenn. we bonded with our backgrounds in military aviation. what will bond us when you come? come and find out.
i hope this helps explain my philosophy.

since a lot of you know each other, I post 'maybes'....so friends can see who is considering coming. sometimes all it takes is a buddy to convince the other to come and both show up. ive never had a bad shoot. by having friends come to enjoy each other, it allows me room to relax and not have to dance as much to entertain you guys. Very Happy
this is why i always stress....these shoots aren't mine, they are yours. im just the piano player.

odd indeed.
ive been open for 8 years and all that time I had a caretaker 24/7 on site.
practically no one came to my range.
he leaves.
I close the range down to invite only - semi annually only.
and now all the locals are coming out of the woodwork wanting to shoot.
go figure.

I was wondering if you were still there at home or if you had been evacuated to Missouri. The fall Southern Side by Side in South Carolina{the same weekend as the Vanzant shoot) may have been flooded pretty bad and have a wet time of it.
One thing we don't have to worry about in Missouri is hurricanes and very few tornadoes in the Ozarks.

wife and I have had enough of va. and hurricanes. odds are we will be selling soon.
sarah wants to downsize. says the house is too much for me to maintain anymore. I agree. im tired of painting 3 stories on ladders. let alone the basement flooding.
problem is, its stuffed full of 3 generations of memories. mostly mine. sarah lives much lighter than me. time will tell.

I got a fellow from Fayetteville ar coming up to look at my spare trap machine and I invited his entire youth group to join us. he will be getting back to me soon. I'd put them on the 4pm fri squads. wow, that would be nice to have 10 more guys.
