I have a stash of old Alcan 220, Winchester W209 and Rem 57.

So each primer has a problem when using with modern RGL. Using a Mec 9000

The Alcan 220 and Winchester W209 wont seat all the way, which buggers up the machine, not to mention isn’t flush with the base of the shell.

The Rem 57 primers are too small and just fall out.

Anyone else experience this, I don’t believe its an adjustment I can correct on my machine.

The real bummer is I’ve got thousands of each.

57 primers are too small. The others will work just fine if you lower the primer seating ram on station 2 to seat them flush.

Brdslayr, this is a mec 9000 station two on mine is not adjustable to the best of my knowledge. How do you adjust it? It’s on a shaft with a spring and the cup.

This might help also

I drill all my 10ga Rem hulls but with the 16ga hull I have never really had a problem, although if you drill them primer seating is easier .

Thanks skeet, I have the paper copy sitting right next to the machine, and everything was adjusted to spec. Primers seat no problem in fiochi, and I’ve never had a problem with the past 4000 RGL I reloaded.

I know the 57 are too small.

This is all old stash, the 220 and the w209 as well as the federales all seat just fine when I use my mec500.

Managed to get 3 flats reloaded yesterday, used the 9000 to deprime and reneck, then the 500 to seat the primer and the 9000 for the rest of the assembly. One person manned the 500 one on the 9000. Kinda a stupid way to do it, but I couldn’t source any primers locally, and the cheapest box of 16ga I could find on the shelf was $12/box for estates.

I’ve got new primers coming and I’ll monkey with the machine one more time this morning.

Thanks for the input.

Mike PM me your address and I’ll send them post haste.

So it turns out the problem was the Indian not the bow. Big surprise here right? I tinkered with the machine again, I re gressed and oiled up all the parts. Then I tried a few hulls and failed. Then I got the bright idea to try another batch of hulls.

You see where I am it’s getting harder and harder to get your hands on anything shooting related. guns, access to land, and now ammunition. So I horde these precious little black hulls, and the frugal nature got the best of me. I was trying to reload once shot shells that we shot on the beach, then they went into my storage on the beach about 5 seasons ago.

What I failed to notice in the dim light and my aging eyes is that the holes had a bit of corrosion from the salt water and air. Just enough to make the primer difficult to seat.

So I tossed out the rest of the batch and got some hulls from
Last season. Viola all fixed.
Thanks for the help all.

I use winchester 209 primers for RGL on my lee Load all and they seat just fine. Have never used the other primes though. The good news is that the win 209 will work. You just need to fiddle with your machine.

Yeah, that’s a real bummer. I haven’t shipped anything in a long time but I’m hopong a buddy can accommodate. If not I’ll have to prime some hills and send them that way.
