Bronco, you're better off calling and talking with him.
Real nice guy. Too many questions for e-mail.

Talked to Mike today. Sounds like a nice guy and he gave me a short turn around estimate. My Charles Smith & Sons 16ga double is certainly not a highend piece but is dear to me and I shoot it fairly well. Thanks again guys. Bob

Metal shim stock is a lot better than paper. You can do it yourself, although I've never found a good way to keep the shim in place when you take the gun apart. (Stays in place fine as long as the gun is together, even through a lot of opening and closing.) Some guys claim success super gluing the shim in place. But a more permanent and professional repair is certainly preferable, if it's a more expensive gun.

Keith Kearcher told me to put layers of aluminum foil on the hook until it was tight with the forend off and to be sure to check it for tightness before shooting it each time. It stays put even with the gun apart and worked great. I put several hundred rounds through it without having to replace the foil before I finally had him put some metal on it.
