I have been loading 2 9/16 for my sxs.. Been looking at Ithaca 37's, model 12's, and Rem 31L's. Can I shoot 2 9/16 shells with out any problems if they are chambers are 2 3/4. Thanks.

You can absolutely shoot the shorter shells in those guns with no issues. The Model 12s in fact will probably like them more than a 2-3/4” shell.

Happy shooting! Make sure you let us know what you get.

Thanks for all your input. I just received my new 1948 model 12 16 ga. this morning.
Ran about a half box of 2 9/16 " reloads through it and all went well. I chose the model 12 because my Dad gave me a brand new 12 ga. model 12 in 1957. Oops, now you know I'm an old guy, but still having fun.

707PS many old guys refuse to grow up. My dad will be eighty in December and still shoots ATA trap on a regular basis. He has a sign in his reloading room that says " No matter how old I get I refuse to grow up"
He got me started shooting a shotgun when I was ten years old and I am glad to see him still enjoying it to this day. Even if he doesn't shoot a 16. I got my first 16 from my grandfather in 1986 and have preferred them ever since.

I was 16 years old, and indeed I still have it. I had a Simmons rib installed about 25 years ago and purchased a browning 20 ga. model 12 when they first came on the market. The 16 has a plain barrel 28" long with a modified choke. The 16 is lighter than the 20. Love the 16.

if one is to run into any problems using shorter shells , it is because the timing CAN be upset around the mag tube . M12's set the 2nd shell out in the tube when loaded , and sometimes the short shell can let the 3rd shell into the action . They don't happen much because the original gun was designed around the short shell . My M97 , when the shell pops out of the mag tube can actually flip up and catch into the carrier ! They were designed for short shells also , but this gun was designed when RC shells were the norm and they are just a LEETLE bit longer . So for 999 out of a thousand , the guns work like magic , but for that one time !!!!!
