Your thoughts & recipes. I know their cheddite hulls but the quality seems a little better. Maybe it's just me. I generally load mostly cheddite over the past few years. Shooting mainly games 3 to 4 times a week. Once or twice a month ATA. This year though I havent had the time to travel to ATA events as much. But rather shoot games anyway

The crimps split for me after 2-3 loadings.

I have been loading the Herters hulls for a couple years and still haven't had any split crimps after at least four reloads of each hull. I mostly shoot them in my SxS guns so I don't have to chase down my empties after they are thrown out by my Rem M11 or my M12 Win.

Wonder if I got a bad batch of Herters hulls or if it’s my loader, a mec sizemaster.
I sure end up splitting a lot of crimps.

Have reloaded 2 flats which were bought a year apart. They start to split after 3 reloads and are done after 4.

I also use a Mec Sizemaster.

MEC plastic crimp starters? I found a pair of aftermarket metal crimp starters of unknown mfg. in a garage sale. They added an extra reloading to most of my hulls on the size-master. Maybe they help or maybe I'm more careful with the alignment and that helps keep the hull alive. 4 reloads is normal without cracking. Cut and used once more for a rolled shortie if they look good inside...

I believe alot has to do with type of powder also. My loads aren't squimish. I load mainly for trap playing games .. I noticed when I tried 20/28 I got longer life on the crimps. Most hulls I get 5 to 8 reloads except for ACTIVES & BLACK REM. The plastic seems to brittle. ACTIVES after first reload split terribly. Rems are lucky if I get 3 reloads.
My main powder now is 20/28 the last 2 yrs. Green dot, claydot, 700x, 572, bluedot, clays not good. Universal and longshot are terrible. Both when I use the recommended load the gun bout jumps out of my hands.
As far as the loader I don't think if it's set-up properly has much to do with the hulls splitting. I occasionally I use a mec and find no problems their either.

Interesting comment re powders.
I use Unique for light loads and Long Shot for hunting loads and as noted above, I get lots of split crimps after 2-3 loadings b

The best 16 gauge hull today is the Browning 16 gauge hull IMO. It is made of a better plastic and also has a Cheddite basewad. The down side is they are quite a bit more expensive than the Herters.

What load data does one use for the Browning hull?

They are Cheddite. Loaded in the same factory in Australia as the Winchester/Cheddite hull. Browning says they are not for reloading, but it has a cheddite basewad so I load them that way. Since they are black they are hard to find if your auto loader kicks them a long way.
