What do you know about Macon Gunstocks? Anyone here purchase and finish any of their merchandise? How was the initial stock in letting when recieved....etc...?
Thanks in advance guys!

I have used their semi-inletted stocks on two Bakers that I rebuilt. They were both a lot of work to get an actual fit. One was a direct copy of the original stock and it was no better than their of the shelf replacement. The end results were fine bu I could have used a blank and expended less effort.

Hmmm....
Good to know. I was considering one of their Remington Model 31 replacement stocks...

Quite a difference in fitting a sidelock double when compared to a Remington 31. I’d expect the 31 stock would be a pretty straight forward endevour... checkering will most likely be the biggest challenge. :2cents:

On Doublegun forums there are dedicated threads about unethical behaviour by Macon. I myself had to get involved on behalf of a friend in France who ordered a rifle stock. Macon has his money and despite saying it was in stock when he paid, 9 months later they were ignoring him, knowing he had no real recourse.

Many other similar stories. I would not have any dealings with them.

would a Rem Model 29 stock fit a Model 31 ? I ask because Boyds has those for $64.00 they look interchangeable.

The model 29 is a very different gun from the model 31. There is a much different trigger assembly and a much flatter receiver.
I think I've encountered more Model 10's and Model 17's than the Model 29.

It would be interesting to see one in 16ga!

have heard many unflattering things about Macon .... I called them when I wanted a monte M31 stock - had one and 75 bucks later , had a nice one . I virtually whisker finished it to try out without even needing shaping/inletting , so go figure .

I saw a very B grade movie once called, "Macon County Line." Must be the same actors.

I am exceptionally displeased with Macon. 4 months late on an L.C. Smith stock, then the inletting was actually too large in places! This is the reason I have never finished it. I need to do extensive decorative inlay work on all 4 sides to get rid of the gaps that I didn't cause! I would have been better off cutting from a slab...which is exactly what I am going to do for my Lefever. It will be LESS work.

Yep...
It's a tuff decision, not interested in blowing 75 bucks, but it's possible it may be fine...
Usually when I'm facing that option on a jobsite I instantaneously vote NO.

Damn vintage guns....I love em too much to pass them up, but somehow, Bubba "loved" so many of them in his own special way...

Damn.

RUN...don't walk away from Macon Gun stocks.

I had a VERY nice wood set I sent them along with my original 28" /12ga 425. I asked them to do a fit and finish matching my original wood dimensions. what I got back was hideous. 50% oversized forestock, no snabel end, etc...tec.. Felt like a 2X6!

I ended up having to eat an initial cash deposit and start a credit card charge back to get the rest of my funds back AFTER having a local gun smith write a letter conforming the sub standard end product.

I had to start a credit card charge back to get a refund after they totally botched a restock of my Browning 425 28".12ga a few years back. it wasn't even close and they didn't give me the time of day. I still lost out on my initial cash deposit.
