Ambled trough the Grandville Cabelas yesterday, of course took a lap around the used shotgun rack, odd, 6-8 WELL used sxs's a guess would be South American/Spanish make and 6-8 used Winchester single barrels for sale, all 16ga. All worn about the same amount. Was in a hurry so didn't have time to chat w/a sales associate. Be interesting to know where this large group of 16ga guns came from or what was used for. Reasonably priced, probably would make good rainy day guns. |

I saw a collection of the same guns at the Cabelas in Saginaw, MI.
The 16 gauge SxS were all well used and had a price tag of about $300. |

Would buying a sxs like that be worth it? I’ve been trying to find one to play around with. I have handle a few but haven’t ever shot one. Stopped at most of the Cabela’s and a few gun shops on my way to Montana and couldn’t find anything that wasn’t over priced or just about worn out. |

I did not care for the guns that I saw. They seemed very "clunky". |

John, I was recently in Sebewaing picking up a used boat, nice area.
1st impression was possibly used as rental or loaner guns on a game farm or dog training facility. All the SxS's were of the same make but different configurations, English, Pistol some w/cheek piece, some had slings, Etc. All equally worn and most screws were buggered up as though been very quickly repaired often. Clunky is a good description, BUT for $250-300 would make an interesting winter project gun for duck blinds/boats or rainy day guns. By and large the Win's were in a little better shape
Found one in the gun library, Zastava, see link....

Did you purchase my layout boat?
I sold one recently to a guy from the west side of Michigan. |

Hmmm, possibly...if your phone ends in 951 then probably did. |

Enjoy the boat.
I would be wary of a couple of issues guns like these.
Like you stated, the guns seemed to have been disassembled and repaired often. I think replacement parts would be difficult to obtain.
Also, I would want to see if the barrels are well regulated. Do they shoot to point of aim? I have found that many cheap doubles do not.
In the past few years, I have adjusted the point of impact of 4 barrels on 3 sxs guns. |

Cabelas Scarborough had a bunch of the Zastava 16 ga sxs. Most PG, some English.
I passed, in part because I have enough 16 ga sxs right now and in part because the guns on the rack looked clunky.
Seems like Cabelas might have gotten a good price on used European doubles and imported a bunch. So long as that means they keep 16 ga shells in stock, I'm all for it. |

Some of 'em made it to Wichita too. Forends looked like slightly tapered 2x2 lumber. All 16's, and all had sling swivels. Weird. |

Was in Cabelas in Hazelwood , Mo yesterday to get non-tox ammo no luck. Went into the fine gun room and saw well used 21 win 16ga. Asked to look at it and noticed the price was less than 3K! Had brilley cake in left barrel and appeared short. Measured length an was exactly 24in. Clerk said the had had it long enough that the price had been reduced once and would probably be lowered again soon. Probably make someone a nice grouse/woodcock gun? |

"Cabelas Scarborough had a bunch of the Zastava 16 ga sxs. Most PG, some English. "
I seen a rack of the Zastava sxs 16s at the Hazelwood Cabalas location (St. Louis Mills Blvd.) yesterday the 5th. They all had sling swivels too, all in the neighborhood of $300 dollars. Don't remember grips. Made in Yugoslavia.

Sorry Bill can't recall, if I'm back there anytime soon I'll take a look for you.
John, sorry didn't connect the dots regarding last name. Looking forward to enjoying it, hope to have the entire rig in the water in the next few days. Thanks again for selling it to me. |
