Does anyone know of a source for 16 gauge waterfowl loads? I'm looking for something better than the 15/16 oz steel at 1350 fps. Thanks. |

Kent Bismuth comes in 5 and 6's at 1300 fps. Rio and RST also sell 16 bismuth. |

The Kent 1oz Bismuth loads are good. I use 6 for teal season & 5 for the rest; very effective load until late season freeze-up (when I switch to 16ga hand-loads 13ITX or Kent 12ga tungsten)... |

Those bismuth 5s are just about the same range for penetration as steel #3s. So they're "OK", but I'd rather have 4s... unfortunately Kent dropped their planned waterfowl load of 4s in bismuth. Maybe 40 yds for large ducks, maybe a bit more with good presentations. |

Try Sporting Ammo II. They are out of Palms, MI. They are on Facebook.

They make a 16 gauge load of 15/16 oz of steel at 1450 fps.
I have used it in #3 steel and it is a solid performer on both ducks and pheasants. |

Agree with Dave in AZ. absolutely right on the range. The 5s run out of oomph at 40yards (same distance my skill level runs out). Had some old Winchester logo bismuth 4s at one & a quarter ounce that kicked but were better for the long shots... |

I got with Sporting Ammo II out of Palms, Michigan. It's a small outfit about 75 miles from where I live, so ordered a case of 16 gauge #2 nickel plated steel (15/16 oz @1450 fps) and I drove out there to pick them up and meet the people.
This is great ammo!
Just came back from a snow goose hunt. Others were skeptical about a 16 gauge until they saw the performance. Sporting Ammo II gets thumbs up from me. |

I don't do facebook but got Sporting ammos ph# off the link. Their 16 ga ammo is $19/box. 1's through 6'sof steel. Might do smaller on request. Doesn't recommend the 1's in 16ga. Willing to do mixed shot sizes on cases and cases are $180 . Shipping is extra and done UPS ground. Wondering if John or Shouseal have tried the Federals in #2 and how it compares to Sporting Ammo's loads |

I have killed a Lot of ducks, brant and geese with that Sportfing Ammo 16ga 3's via a MOD choke and recommend them. I think they pattern tight and Kill solidly at normal duck range, which I figure is about 50 yards.
I can't get them shipped here to California anymore though.
I tried that Kent Bismuth fives and found myself chasing or slucing a lot, then I spun in a FULL choke and it started to work much better. The pellets are a bit small for fives and don't penetrate deep out past forty, but the denser pattern seemed to make a difference.
I ran out of S.A steel in December so had about six weeks straight Bismuth.
The 1-1/8oz Bismuth ELY #4 that Winchester used to have was great, and KENT 1-1/6 oz 5 Tungsten Matrix took about every waterfowl from Puget Sound to Baja for me.
I Wish Kent would do a SpeedSteel in 16, or that #4 Bismith...
I tried Federal and Remington steel 4 and wasn't impressed, never saw a box of 2's |

Rio offers 4s in the 16ga bismuth lineup. |

...That RIO #4 sounds worth a try but since Un licensed persons can't mail order ammo here in CA anymore, I'll probably pull the MEC down and start to load again so long as components can be delivered here.
I tried a few boxes of that ITX #4 when it first came out, and still have half a bag of it.
That 7/8 oz over 22grains (?) PB didn't impress me much though. |
